My latest modification.
well, after 3 1/2 years together erica and i finally got hitched! i couldn't ask for a more perfect person - we met through our jeeps, we both love the outdoors, we both wheel our jeeps together, and she even tolerates when uncle sam sends me off to crazy places every year or so. the wedding was saturday up in stroudsburg pennsylvania and we head off for a east caribbean cruise this friday. sorry for the cheesy post but i've never been so happy in my whole life!!!!!!!

That's wonderful! I wish you both all the happiness in the world. Nothing adds to life more than marrying a great friend, a beatiful woman, a supportive coach, and a kindred spirit all wrapped up in one perfect person!
Here's a tip from my short 14 year marriage: When arguing (it will happen) make it a rule to hold hands sitting face to face. Makes it darned near impossible to be mad for long!

quadna,
My wife, Karen, and I have been married for 44 years, and my folks celebrated their 69th anniversary on October 1st. Based on my being associated with enduring marrages, I will offer a few observations: (1) Early on, money will cause friction, fights and misunderstandings. Sit down together and make a plan on how you intend to earn it, save it and spend it. Set individual spending limits that you both can agree to observe. Set financial goals. Don't over run your credit cards. I think you get the idea. If you don't establish a financial plan from day one, you will fight about it later. (2) Humor is one of the most important elements in a solid marriage. You need to see the humor in some of the dumb things you do individually and as a couple. Take time to laugh about it. Don't be affraid to say, "I made a mistake." or "I'm sorry for doing something stupid." Laugh at the dumb things you may do, but never be critical or make fun of each other. (3) From the very beginning, be supportive of each other. Help one another achieve their career and life goals. Take time to celebrate your accomplishments. Never belittle what your mate thinks is important. (4) If you intend to have children, make a plan on how you intend to raise them. Like it or not, they will be the center of your life and you will have to deal with it. Some parents are not up to the task of raising their children - they try and "wing it" on a day to day basis instead of following an agreed to plan that both parents endorse. (5) If you don't have a common religion, I suggest you adopt one that you both can support. While it may not seem important now, you will be surprised how important it will become when you have children and want to bring them up in a church or temple. (6) Don't try and do everything together. It's okay to have individual interests, in fact I think it results in a more interesting marrage. For example, My wife likes to go to plays and other events that take place at theaters. I don't. I like to go Jeeping and camping. She hates my Jeep (a benefit I hadn't planned on) and she would rather poke pins in her eyes than go camping. (7) Don't be affraid to take separate vacations. We take one vacation a year together and then we each take a separate vacation to do what we like best. For instance, I may take an extended Jeep trip, like the Rubicon Trail and she will fly to New York City and attend several plays. It's all good. Best of luck to both of you, Fred |
