Angry Every Bolt Is oUt But One.....Stripped Torx Bolt Ideas

In ouder to pull my cage all the cage mounting bolts need to come out.

In order to access all the bolts, the 4 seat belts need to be removed.

3 seatbelts are out. The right rear is giving me problems. The T-47 torx bolt holding on the mechanism to the lower part of the rollcage is stripped. I can't believe it stripped. The others came out so easy.....

No problem I thought, I'll remove it once the cage is out. Figured I'd lay the cage on it's side and vise grip it out.

Problem is that I can't access the last remaining bolt holding the cage down, which is you guessed it, directly under the seat belt mechanism.

Vise grips have only made me bloody and the bolt head shiny.

Any ideas?

I'm PO'd and at a loss.

Are the rear belts left and right specific?

I may just say screw it and sacrifice the mechanism and try and pick up a used one somewhere.

Allen

Get better vice grips. If you have access to the head, put them on tighter than you think is possible. Since you've already mauled the bolt, get a good drift and punch the center of the bolt with a 2 lb. shop hammer a few times.

It will work.

The problem is I can't access the bolt center. If I could I'd use the torx bit/socket.

Better vise grips may be in order.....

Any suggestions?

I've tried a medium and small set.

I've put them on tight.....but haven't tried "hammering" them on yet.

This is frustrating.....

The head isn't as mauled as my knuckles.....

If vice grips fail to retrieve gnarled-up bolts, I usually weld another bolt to the stuck one, then wrench em out as one. Wrap yur seatbelt real good so you don't melt it.
Kinda feel silly, telling you to weld something. But that's a quick method that always works for me.

A good set of Vice Grips should do the trick. But if that fails...

Get an air chisel, shear the head off, get access to the bolt from head-on, drill it a bit, then easy out.

Put it all back together and sell the jeep. Start over on a new one.

Do you have enough room to grind a couple "flats" on the bolt head? That might make the vice grips grab better....

If you end up damaging the seat belt mechanism, PM Fred (StealthTJ) - I think he still has them in the garage and might be willing to part with them.

No room to do anything helpful at all.....

But the good news is that I got it out.

Took a T-50 and beat it into the opening with a hammer.

It came out. Barely, but it's out.

Now I can pull the cage tomorrow and get to work.

Glad you were successful. Seems I run into one of those types of issues everytime I do a project.

First thing I do to new jeeps when we get them is to loose the torxs. I hate torxs.
