Cool A Ghost for Cheerful Widow

I got yet another home theater album. In this one I am perfecting my color balancing technique for mixed and difficult lighting conditions.

What we have here is two Home Depot halogen flood lights providing the bulk of the light from the back, and an incandescent light fixture from the top. At the beginning of the performance quite a bit of daylight from the setting sun enters the room through the windows, by the end, it is dark outside. Plus, there is a small black light tube always on.

My lens is a 70-200 f/2.8 with vibration reduction, the camera ISO locked at 400, manual exposure set to 1/60 of a second. I hand hold the camera, and the supplemental light is provided by an on-camera flash bounced straight up into the ceiling. On the flash I use a TN-A1 orange filter and a bounce card.

My previous solution in situations like this involved setting the white balance temperature, and then correcting color channels individually, perhaps even by using curves. That was an error prone method due to many steps involved. This time I simplified the process of dealing with colors by using only white balance temperature (in this case in the range from 2400 to 2900 degrees K) and tint adjustments (both plus and minus of varying amplitude). Chances are there is a good combination of these two controls to get pleasing tones. And because there are only two, the procedure is much quicker.
