Radiator Catch/Overflow Can Choices

I really don't know what to look for. Some are recirculating, some may be but don't say so. I can go standard polyethylene, one with a breather top, nifty aluminum, recirculating, ora couple, other choices

Three pages of choices, I'm proud I was able to narrow it down to this. I'm sure it doesn't matter much, but I need to get rid of my Snapple bottle.

Had one of those on the FJ, which tended to run hot in extreme situations. Did a nice job of spraying coolant all over the place every time the engine got toasty.

Regular 'ol overflow suits me fine.

The benefit of the jegs is that when you flop over your overflow res doesn't dump out.

Has a pin-hole on the top, probably a pressure relief valve (but I never took it apart to see). Sucker would go off like a teapot.

differant product then. mine has a 1/4" fitting on each end. bottom for fluid expansion and recirculation and top for over flow.

Chef, the stock can is a recirculating can. the coolant expands when hot, flows into bottle. cools and recirculates back into radiator.

Mine has the same fittings and does the same thing. Has the pinhole as a relief too.

I have the Be Cool model. Long aluminum tube about 18" and 2.5" dia. Runs along the side of the radiator and has a threaded cap. both lines come off the bottom and makes for a clean install. Uses very little room. Had the jegs one and had problems with it. Also wanted a little bling factor. I have the brass radiator so when I had it recored I polished out the top tank and braised on a brass line from the neck down the side to the bottom. old school hot rod style. Looks great in the cj-5.

Sorry to resurect this thread, but the links don't work anymore. Just finished with PSC install, the Mountain Dew bottle will work for a while, but I'd like a more permanent solution. What's the recommendation of the day? I read about 20lbs cap as well, but all local parts stores only carry stock 18lbs caps.

Slice the fan shroud so that the part with the holes for the reservoir stay with the piece you cut off. Build an offset bracket that moves the reservoir forward 1" and over to the side slightly and re-use the stock overflow reservoir.

I did Jon's that way and it came out slick.

Basically I used a vertical piece of 1" square thin wall tube and welded about a 2" wide flange out of 1/8" sheet metal. I screwed through the cut edge of the fan shroud into the tubing with the flange forward and to the left.

We mounted the steering reservoir where the coolant bottle was.

Move it.

I trust the stock overflow reservoir to do it's job as intended. I do not trust a higher PSI cap, I do not trust any of the other ghetto fixes.

I spent a lot of time mulling this over when I did Jon's rig and faced with a similar scenario again, I would do it the same way. Besides, you should wind up with the same length feed line to the pump which is your biggest concern.
