Danan 300 build - shifter pins
I've read through a load of D300 wirteups, including Chris's here, however after we nearly finished up the D300 Teralow and twinstick build today (for a friends CJ) we ended up with a question.
Do we have to remove the internal pins between the shift rails to be able to use front 2low while the rear is in neutral? To add confusion, my understanding is that the left and right shifter once twin sticked simply relate on a 1 to 1 basis, meaning one stick to control one axle. Then I find the Currie twin stick pattern for a D300 and it shows a different pattern altogether. I believe the Currie info I found is wrong. Anyway. I know taking the pins out mean you have the potential for a H/L combination and kaboom goes something in the drivetrain. We were under the impression we would not have to remove the pins or alter the shift rods to do front digs. It was a long day. (edited for krappy spelling)

I think the pins that you are talking about are called "pills" by most people. IIRC the pills only prevent FWD High, I could likely be wrong, but thats what I remember.
I removed the pills on my D300. And regarding the sticks. Yes, one stick controls the front axle, the other controls the rear. I think there is a Dana case (maybe the D20) that when twin sticked, one stick controls high/low, the other stick controls front/both/rear. The only negative to removing the pills is its possible to put the rear in high and the front in low. Ive never heard of anyone tearing up their t-case because of this. I think it would be pretty obvious, pretty quick that something was not right. MP |

Pills, yeah I couldnt recall the term. The Tera instructions are non existent regarding any details like this. I think the pills will probably just come out tomorrow night and be done with it. Thanks Matt.

I never took the case apart or removed any pins/pills, and I have front-low. The thought that each stick controls an axel is wrong. The left stick controls ?Hi-Nt-Lo? and the right controls the locking of the axels. 4Hi-unlock-4low+fntLow. Left stick pulled back, right middle = 2Hi Both sticks pulled back = 4 Hi Left stick forward, right middle = 2 Low Both sticks forward = 4 low Left stick middle, right forward = Frnt only Low. Now this is on a stock 300 with a currie twin-stick.

That collar between them is what your shifting, middle postion it doesnt grab high or low (neutral). The partially obscurred shaft to the right is your RWD that is set up exactly the same. |
