crazy computer

97JGC limited 4L, computer has gone wild!
Gages will cut off while driving.the RED light on the dash comes on and stays on........other crazy things going on.windows won't go up or down etc.........Engine will stop and restart immediatly...
sometimes .

on occasion the vehicle will start and shut off immediately.....
you have to start the vehicke between 3 to 15 times before it decides it wants to run............

My mechanic guessed it was the power control module......
$900.00 later..that was not it.......now he's guessing the Body Control Module........that's more big mulah.......

I know a lot of people have had this problem based on the web advice for service personnel........but it appears everyone gets rid of the vehicle rather than getting the problem fixed......

If there is a known cure for these unruley trons, could someone let me know........

This might be a stretch, but have you tested both the battery and alternator?
