Old style hood latches on a TJ
Has anybody installed Old CJ/Military style hood latches on a TJ?
What's involved, and how do you like it? You think it will be easy to do? |

Not enough "bling" on your TJ?

Yes, that, and a second broken factory style TJ hood latch. The rubber just can't survive the force and determination of the humanoid monkey behind the wheel.

i put some YJ/CJ ones on. you have to drill new holes in the hood. and enlarge 2 mounting holes in the fenders.
they didn't hold my hood down any better, and started squeaking and making noise b/c of the hood flutter. not sure if they got rusted or what. you may not have that problem in cali. went back to the TJ ones.

Actually, I am doing the complete opposite. I use a ratchet strap when the jeep is on the trailer, and unhook it for wheeling. I figure the hood flying off on freeway is mainly what I want to avoid. Correct me if I am wrong.

Hood pins. If it's good enough for every mullet wearing Firebird driver on the planet, it's good enough for your Jeep

My jeep does not have two good side latches.

The hood pin idea sounds intrugging, and I think I know a good place for hood pins.

I've noticed an abundance of hood style latches at MacFaddendale Hardware...Next time I'm roaming the aisles I'll try to remember to snap a pic with my phone. There's a few that are similar to the YJ latches, and about 15 other variations.

1-The core supports are both right hand and point the same way as well as being offset under the hood? 2-The driver side frame bracket for the motor mount is 2" longer than the one on the passenger side. 3-The above is to offset the drivetrain to the passenger side which is very assymmetrical. You aren't going to have a breakdown now that you know this stuff are you? PS, when we did your tires, I swapped out one of the lugnuts to a different size. Instead of taking a 3/4" socket, it needs a 13/16".

that's what I did after the roll over.
Can't beat the $8 price tag and it actually doesn't even look too bad (as if someone would care ) CJ latch on non-crinkled side of TJ hood HTH

Would that be the 4" angle grinder or center punch and drill windshield pin removal tool? MP

A lot of grinding, punching and sweating, since they were obviously never meant to be taken out. And then go figure that the windshield was still on during the roll over |
