Tig Tips?
I've been practicing quite a bit lately and have improved up to this point. I can consistantly produce welds that look like this, but am lost as to what to do now to improve. And I know I have a LOT more improving to do
Any advice? Syncrowave 250DX 3/32 thoriated tungsten 1/16 S2 filler 3/16 hot rolled steel Things that seem obviously wrong to me - Upper edge is undercut, but if I use less heat I can't form a consistent puddle. -Spacing is inconsistent, I know practice will help this -It looks like my filler is pushing through the puddle and forming a bulge on the trailing side of the puddle, not sure what to do about this.

Undercut means what?
Too much heat, wrong angle, lack of filler, or any variation there of. Keep your heat the same. Change your angle slightly. Direct more heat into the lower plate rather than the upper. Use more filler.

Glad to hear my heat is ok. Attempts to weld cooler create other problems for me.

How many amps are you running?
Also, is that a lift/scratch start or does it have high frequency? I don't remember..... Also, you want a pointed tungsten. A sharp point. I can't stress this enough. A balled toungsten is very tolerant of touching the weld puddle during aluminum. Pointed electrodes on steel are not at all even close to tolerant of contaminatin.

I think I have the machine set around 200-250 amps, but really don't ever floor the pedal. High frequency start, I have the option to keep the HF on for arc stabilization, but have only used that feature on aluminum.
Yes, a sharp tungsten. I sharpen them on a belt grinder chucked in a cordless drill. I have finally gotten past the point of dipping my tip every 6" It got me good at sharpening tungsten though... For aluminum I have also been using a sharp tungsten, do you recommend balled for alum? That "tickle" when you feed the filler into the tungsten has improved my concentration I feel a bit like Pavlovs dog.
