Learning/re-learning to weld

I know, take a class at a local vocational school.... I plan to, next summer. I'm a tax accountant and don't have that kind of time b/w now & end of April.

Allen, I think you posted some tips at one point, but I can't find the thread. I just want to be able to burn a few rods, do some easy stuff. For example, buddy has a Samurai & needs the T/C shifter bracket welded on, & there's a slight crack in the A-pillar area on my wife's Caravan (it's from opening & closing the door -- no, I'm not thinking of welding structural stuff! ).

All I have is a little 115V buzzbox. I have some 3/32 6011 for now. Thinking of getting some 1/8" mild strap & setting up some butts & Ts -- does that sound reasonable?

Steve

Forget the butt joints.....concentrate on the "T" joints.

Burn some rods and post some pictures.....

I'll be able to help from what I see.

And yes, take the class ASAP.....and then get a good welder.

(My mother in law is a CPA and my wife a bookkeeper.....I know you're just a tad busy right now..... )

OK, I'll stick to the Ts. The buzzbox was about $65, and that was the plan -- play a little w/a cheapie buzzbox, then take a class, & decide if I want to get serious about it or not. Dad has a DC machine hiding in his garage somewhere. I think he even has a MIG unit for it.

Thanks again, I'll try to burn some this week & post some pics.
