Tie rod taps.

Anybody out there know where I can get a Left Hand Thread 11/16" 18 tpi plug tap for less than $97.00. I need to build a HD tie rod to avoid doing this again:

Big taps are expensive.....

Sorry.

If it wasn't LHT I could likely get one through work to loan out.....

Some of our taps cost several thousand dollars each.....

Why 11/16's-18? There are other ways. What are you trying to build?

I'd assume he bought the tubing, then looked at tooling.....or has a bunch of tubing laying around.....

Or I could be wrong.

Right hand tap isn't a problem. It's only $16.50. I haven't bought any tube yet. I going to use 1" o.d. .250 wall and drill out ends to fit. Looking to use tie rod ends that will match the size and taper of the stock ends. That's all I have to go off of at this point. 11/16" 18tpi is the size and thread count for a stock tie rod end. Any suggestions of an alternate way would be appreciated. I have access to a mill and a lathe and am qualified to use them but they are too "cheap" to hold the tolerances needed to cut internal threads. Also I am a decent welder so if there is any kind of an insert available that would be helpful also. I can't use Heims because it's my daily driver still. Any help would be great. Thanks.

If you are stuck on 11/16-18, then get some inserts that weld into tube from one of the vendors on POR. Personally, I'd try and dig up some TRE's with a more common thread size on the shank. I think the problem you will run into is having to enlarge the taper to match the pin though. That's pretty easy to do with an 1.5"per foot reamer from Goodson or Stock Car Products.
