fixing rock rash on the safari top

not major tears, just a few 1/2" to 3/4" rock rash cuts along the top where it attaches to the door surround.

I was thinking something RTV-like or something like that vinyl chair repair goo they used to have on TV where you spread it in and iron over it.

I don't want to sew on a patch but I fear if I leave it it will tear all the way through and I will have to.

suggestions?

I've previously used inflatable Kayak patches with their little tubes of vulcanization good. Works killer.
