stupid brake question
my recently purchased 71 cj5 doesn't have power assist brakes. it also has drums all around. never having driven a vehicle without power brakes, this was quite a shock to me.
could there be something wrong with the brakes that it was almost impossible to stop, or are they really that hard??? i'm thinking about doing a complete brake upgrade to a newer (maybe copy my tj) brake system with power assist and disc brakes all around. any ideas or advice???

I'm sure it's probably been neglected and the brakes could use some adjustment at least. My '63 CJ-5 would stop fairly well, but you never knew which lane you'd end up in.
An upgrade is the best way to go. Then you're talking $$$$$$$$$ Here's where it all begins......

Start from the ground up. Don't waste money on the diffs if you aren't going to keep them. If you are keeping them, the best place to start modding are the brakes.
