dana 44 front ---questions!!

some of you guys who frequent JU will remember the thread about my dana 30. remember i said i had a friend who was going to give me (for free) a dana 44 housing already cut down? the only draw back was that he had machined and welded on a set of dana 30 C's so he could use all his existing outer from the 30.----- remember?

well i went and picked it up yesterday. and it is in great shape!!! i am very pleased with it. i got the 44 C's and i could very easily grind off the the 30's and put the 44's on. anyone know of any write ups for building a front axle for a tj? there was an article in petersons a month or two ago but they didn't discuss any bracketry. and as usual they left alot of little stuff out.

this is a project i am very tempted to do just because i haven't ever done it and it will be fun. but i am going to have a ton of questions and some will probably be stupid!!!

i guess the first question is-- my friend said the chevy 10 bolt knuckles will go on the 44 C's. he said this is the best way to get high steer knuckles for cross over steering. true or not?

and if this is a big waste of time energy and money feel free to comment on that too. my max tire plan is a 37 but as i stated before i really want to run the 36 x 13.50 iroc. is seems to be great for the southern wheeling we do in arkansas!!!

Is it a high pinion axle? If not, I wouldn't even bother unless it already has all the bracketry welded on and is otherwise a bolt-in. It seems to me to be way too much work for too little benefit.

the 10 bolt knuckles should work, but you might need everything out from the knuckles as well off a 10 bolt. The only hp spindles I have seen are a 5 bolt pattern, while the 10 bolt ones I have seen are 6 bolt.

I meant the difference in spindel bolt pattern not lug pattern

Ooops, you said as much a few posts up too.

Waggy spindles are 6 bolt. I used Waggy outers with Chevy knuckles when I built my HP44.
