A Jeep convert

My good friend with the Tracker that can't pass smog jumped ship and bought a 63 CJ5 tonight. We go to get it tomorrow, it should be a really fun project.

Hey, if you can't beat smog tests ... skip 'em altogether. When I was a little kid, my neighbor's had a '5 about that vintage and I was scared of it ... they were evil and threatened to shoot us kids.

Sounds like fun Art. Next, are you gonna' convert him to 60's?

Jeff

Pass on my condolences Art. I remember that Tracker. Is he going to keep it for trail use only?

We picked it up last night and it looks great, no rust initially apparent, all the vital stuff attached and just a little body damage on the rocker panels plus the engine doesn't run (known in advance).

The most interesting part of the whole deal was my trailer losing a wheel on the way back, it sheered off at the lugs which was kind of a surprise. I'll be interested to figure out why that happened.

He's not sure if he is going to keep the tracker or not.

Tell Anthony congrats on finally finding the light

As for trailers, my take is that you have to stay on top of them - mine tried to make an escape from my Suburban when I was on my way to Corona to pick up my Jeep about a month or so back. Seems the latch on the coupler decided to take a sh$t which never would have occured to me. Luckily the Jeep wasn't on the thing as the coupler came back under the truck and basically destroyed itself. I upped the anti by replacing it with an 8500lb rated bull dog style. Now I look everything over before I take it anywhere, and that includes tire pressure, lug nuts and wheel bearings.

The funny part is that he decided to try one more time to get the Tracker to pass. By doing some kind of outside of the rulebook things to the emissions systems and timing he got it to pass with almost zero emissions (NO went from 2000 to under 20).

Maybe he'll sell me the CJ, it's pretty damn cool.
