$3.1 billion to repair the levees

Wouldn't it be cheaper to build a whole new city farther inland? Really now.

I weep for my tax dollars.

If they did that - the owners of the property wouldn't be sitting on "beach front" property any more, would they? Or at least not till the next big hurricane hit.

I wouldn't mind that so much had they actually granted the original request of 400 million to do it 10 years ago. Thats where I weep over my dollars....well, that and the 2 bil or so we have thrown at that place in disaster releif already. I liked NO when I was there - Sergey, you would fit right in

Jeffrey Mount, a member of the (california) state Reclamation Board, which is charged with controlling floods, put it simply. He said there are two kinds of levees: those that have failed, and those that will fail.

on another note:

in the early 1900s, the streets of Sacramento were raised 10 to 12 feet so they would be above flood levels.

here's a before pic in january of 1862.



Maybe they should consider something like that instead.
