I was in a hurry and stopped by a local welding supply store to exchange it for a new one since I was out of mix. The guy at the counter told me he sat my new bottle on the loading dock so I can just pick it up on my way out. Well.....in my haste, the nitrogen bottle was the only bottle sitting on the loading dock at the time & I just picked it up & tossed it in my Jeep.
When I got home I wrecklessly hooked it up to my welder & started using it. I immediately noticed my welder was welding alot differently. It seemed to be better/hotter than before. The common denominator was the tank and it's unusual color. I think it was the next day or so that I brought it back. They traded me for a bigger bottle at no charge. Stupid of me. Good thing it wasn't acetylene! |

In fact all fuels used in cutting have left hand threads and all non combustible gases use a right hand thread. Ever notice that the propane tanks used with bar-b-ques have left hand threads? There is one exception to that, but it applies to disposeable fuel cylinders like those used for lanterns and camp stoves.

I know he was getting ready to move to somewhere in the Dakota's very soon. Perhaps he's already in transit. My Hobart is not spoken for yet. You are welcome to shoot me a PM offer, mention one here, or call me on my cell. I'll shoot you a PM with my cell number if you'd like to yap about it. |

My interest stems from the fact that I don't have 220 readily available at my place. The way I see it, it would be better to have some way of sticking metal together (in a pinch) than no way at all. Joe, Matt... I doubt I'd be willing to part with more than $200 for the whole shootin' match. FWIW, the few times I carried a shotgun it was a 16ga Ithica pump.

I don't mind giving a friend a good deal, but ~$200 hardly even pays for the bottle and mix gas. The tank hooked to my Hobart is at ~90% capacity and ~$200 is what it takes to have one and have it filled. If I sold my Hobart along with the mix tank for ~$200, this would require that I was paying somebody to take my welder from me. I thinks I'll pass on that for now. |

None taken Brian. I just wanted to toss out the costs (my costs which are probably fairly standard since I don't have a source for a special deal on a tank or mix) of having a tank the size I have, plus filling it. It's not required to run one as I'm sure you know. To run without one, the contact leads are reversed which is real simple to do and just run flux core wire which will work okay.
I may just sell the Hobart & keep an extra tank handy which is almost full. |
