emissions wizzards?

here is one for the wizards. this is not pertaining to a jeep vehicle, but i'll throw it out here anyway.
1996 ford ranger 4 banger.
i ahad some error codes for the 02 sensor, and evap system. replaced the parts, cleared the codes with the auto x-ray.
no more codes... the trick, and difficulty now is resetting the monitors for emissions testing. how in the hell do i reset the monitors.
i was told to just drive it.. i did, for like 400 miles.
there is still only 1 of 3 required readiness monitors on and ready.
i have been at this for like 2 weeks now, with many trips back and forth to the testing station, only to get turned away for these monitors,.
what gives?!
i was also instructed to remove the negative side of the battery for 10 minutes to clear the computer... nothing here either.
any pointers?

Eric,

I had the same problems when I got my TJ smogged. Although it passed the sniffer with flying colors, I had the battery disconnected just prior which wiped out all the monitor records. The guy smogging it was able to get some of them to run manually with the thing running on his dyno. Some, however, required multiple hot and cold starts to work. Assuming you didn't put all those 400 miles in one or two trips, it should be running the tests.

I'd try driving it a bit more, making sure to have plenty of hot and cold starts and driving along the way.

Good luck!
