Thumbs down Let the blame game begin!

Lefties are in a tailspin, they have no idea what hit them.
Our non-biased, objective paper here in the Bay Area, the SF Chronicle surmises Kerry's loss it all due to the tunnel vision of the religious right.

Boy, before reading that piece I had no idea I was so consumed by the abortion and gay-marriage issues. I'm greatful for their clearing that up for me.

Saw a report on FoxNews (an oxymoron for some, get over it) that 70% of residents of France are disappointed in Bush's reelection.

Subsequent survey's in the US failed to discover a single individual who gives a flying f@ck what the French think.

If you want to hold the office of the most powerful nation in the world, you have to stand for something, it has to be defined and you must have the track record to back it up.

ABB simply won't cut it, and no matter how hard you try to convince folks that you are just common folk, women will look at the uppity rich bitch attitude of your wife and vote ABK.

I had't picked up on the wifey thing until my wife pointed out to me that none of the women at her job would vote for Kerry because of his wife.

There are certainly a good number of GOP that vote primarily on policy. But there is no question that between the coasts there is a vast group that is voting on these "moral" issues alone. And by alone I do mean alone, there is no regard to policy at all. It is impossible to have a policy discussion with these folks at all because they are so defined and consumed by the passion of the "moral" issues that anything other than the "moral" side is just wrong and good for nothing no matter the logic.

Please take this with a grain of salt since I am neither a Democrat or Republican and feel that there is a similar group of rabid socialist on the other side that acts in a similar manner. That is what this election was to me anyway, facists vs. socialists.

There was an interesting program on PBS the other day of which a fellow was detailing how it is interesting that there is a large group of people that no longer vote their economic interests anymore, and explaining that it is generally attributed to affluence of society throughout history--when an economic calamity truly comes along folks forget all about these morality issues and vote their economic interests.

The interesting thing is that I truly believe there is a vast middle that wants fiscal conservatives and moderate to progressives on social issues, but can't figure out where do vote. There is some bizarre idea floating around that you cannot be a strong leader without appealing to the extremes, that because these are issues that issues that elicit strong opinions the only way to lead with strength is to pick the side that can shout the loudest. Its facists vs. socialists at the core. The middle of America is extremely weak and lacking of real leadership, but here is a tremendous opportunity. If Bush sticks to reforming SS, Medicare, Iraq, jobs, the sky is not going to fall and he will come out like a Georgia peach. If not, you just have more folks gravitating on both sides to the socialist and facists campsites.

fas?cism n.

A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

so?cial?ism n.

Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.

not seeing where the fascism would come into play here since everybody is still allowed to say what they want. But a lot of the libs I hear on other boards sound like they'd like socialism. They want gov't control of wages, gov't control of who sells here or not (many say no companies that manufacture outside the US), gov't control of oil and gas prices, etc...

There may be no question in your mind, and in the lefties minds, but surveys are simply not supporting your position. To the contrary, the overwhelming deciding issues- to the tune of some 70+% were security and the war.

Blanket statements ("these people") such as these can often be put right back on the persons(s) making such statements.

Chris,

I am just going to leave it at that I am not labeling you as a fascist (I thought that was clear), and I agree with you that the number of voters voting primarily based on "moral" is not the majority the press would have you believe. The press are almost entirely sheep, you know that, I know that.

But, there is no denying that there is a segment of the population that come out to vote simply on these moral issues, and it comes from both sides of the political spectrum, left and right. I know this as fact simply as a function of where I live and who I know. I would never seek to deny these folks rights (of course!), I am expressing my opinion that I feel it is unhealthy for the country. Hope that clears things up.

If not, these are my principles, if you don't like them, I have others

A real William who has not posted in so long.. and couldn't remember his password, and who's email has changed..

How about this:

I hate squirells and love soybeans and I can build one heck of a fence, but I'm not so great at watching out for sprinkler lines.

Ok, I'll call you later, and if you are in fact real William (which looks like it is), we can get your old account switched over to your new e-mail, so you can get the password reset.

You could call me, but my office is out on the ocean right now, so you might get a busy signal.

I'll email you my new email address if that's ok. Otherwise I don't mind using this one.

I've been away for a while.
