Rear drums on a TJ
Really dumb question....
I rotated the tires on my wife's TJ last night and was going to inspect the brakes. Unlike my dana 44 the rear drum would not slide off. Is there a trick to this? it looks like the wheel flange is part of the outer drum. I did not spend too much time looking at it because I knew someone here would know the answer. Make sure those stupid little circle clips are all off, then give it a few good whacks to break it loose. Hit it around the edges, don't try to beat it forward from the rear. All you need to do is break the "rust seal" then it simply pulls off. You may have to back off the adjusters a little too.

The D35 and D44 drums come off the same way. Ron I like the way my Jeep is now..... I'd just like it, well, a little higher off the ground with more ground clearance!.

Thanks,
I did not see any clips on the studs. I tapped it with a hammer but it did not move. I have in the past put too much 'pursuasion' on things and broke them. Then find that there is this little 1/2 cent "thingy" under the "doohicky" that you need to remove first and I would have saved 50 bucks. T3 http://www.geocities.com/alancaster_esswest/jeep.html

The FSM states there is a retainer clip, but mine didn't have one. Just remember to take off the e-brake
