Chrysler Air Filter

What is the scoop with TJ air filters from the dealer? For a while they used to have foam glued on the bottom of the regular filter medium. I went to the dealer today to get a new filter. The one they gave me, part number 4797777AC, no longer has the foam part. I was told that this is the latest generation of the filter.

So, what?s the idea behind no longer having the foam? Did they discover it was too restrictive, or are they pinching pennies, or something?

Still ruins what?

I'm running the Napa Gold, it still has the foam. I just throw it out and replace it after every Thanksgiving. Blaine makes a lot of dust.

Wow, nice, what engine is that!? Cool air cleaner, makes it look like there is a carburetor underneath it. Uh, that engine isn't really isn't running a carb is it?

Jerry,

It's a swapped-in Dodge Magnum 5.9L V8 and as such, it has fuel injection with an aftermarket throttle body under the old school air cleaner. Here's a shot when the modified V8 was going in my 2000 TJ back in 2006.

Thanks Jerry. I also think it looks beautiful, but if I had it to do over again (knowing what I know now, not to mention the ridiculous amount of money involved in the process), I would have happily stayed with the stock 4.0L I6 engine.
