Lenses are more fragile than I though

My youngest decided it would be fun to pull the D40 off of the end table and do a test drop onto a wood floor. Everything seemed okay except that the metering of the flash seemed to be funky. Closer inspection revealed a crack n the glass in some of the inner workings of the lens. Fortunately, it was the 18-55 mm kit lens which came with the camera. His final b-day present is an upgrade to a VR lens.

Are the camera bodies pretty hearty or am I likely looking at a new body as well?

Well, if you ever decide you want to, send it up here and I'll let my kid have a go at it. His older brother has already claimed a point-n-shoot camera (bathtub) and a cellphone (toilet). Ah, sibling rivalry.

This is just the tip of the iceberg Jeff... In a few years they'll "graduate" to much more interesting stuff.... Do you ever wonder if your Mustang is trail ready, or if your Jeep can do burnouts? They'll find out for you.

fire crackers in the toilet really do blow the porcelain to pieces. cereal bowls will indeed break a tempered glass sliding door, and when releasing the emergency brake on a car parked on a sloped driveway will indeed send it crashing into the neighbors vehicle across the street.

uncleaned toilet overflows will damage hardwood floors. tools left outside in the sprinklers will rust, computers with water spilled into them dont work either...
no one said kids are cheap

That's a heck of a hit list! I'll go ahead and consider myself lucky now.
