That mud hole William went into was some seriously nasty stuff - we were all surprised he didn't get stuck - especially considering he had no time to prepare - he just dunked into it.

William - you forgot the best part of the story - the shifter "T" coming off in your hands.

I do nothing but think about Jeep stuff all day long, anyhow, so I do get lots of ideas and act on as many of them as I can.
Then in that aspect, we are one in the same. I understand the ability to get great deals on jeep parts. I was able to do the same at my previous job, and Im sure you know that. As far as always having the latest and greatest, why is it necessary? So everyone can gawk at what you have? At any rate, I like my MTR's just fine, and will stick with them until they fail me... or until BFG realizes thier tires aren't made of gold... and I stop driving mine on the street altogether. Im not about to spend that kinda coin on a tire that will get eaten to crap on road...

Maybe because he wants to, maybe because it works, maybe because he can, not sure why you are concerned about it.

Scott,
You're looking for a contradiction that's not there. I own a Jeep and build it because it makes me happy. I also have the disposable income to be able to afford to.

But the other part of the equation is that I also have a job that has expectations about the equipment on my jeep. Gawk factor is expected.

Seth

I do not want JBBS to be closing any threads here. Lets get back to a tire discussion.

I agree wholeheartedly!

'This isn't about me though. Its about the MT/R being an excellent all around tire.'

Tried once!

I'm not pointing fingers, just trying to steer this back on track before it gets ugly and needs to go away.

Which brings up a good point. I know of two sets of 40" MT/Rs nearly new for sale. If anyone's looking to go BIG, let me know!

I think that MT/R's should come with a warning label.

Warning. Prolonged usage of this product may be habit forming and can cause delusions of grandeur.

Seth (or WARNING: Usage of this tire may cause uncontrolable outbursts and yawlps of glee)

I think tire threads should come with a warning:

Warning: This thread will exceed at least 100 post, involve no less than 10 instances of name calling, 25 points of views, 30 counter points, including 15 my friend had, 16 cases of your driving must suck and 21 cases of my penis is bigger than yours.

I remember that well.. but after breaking them in, and running them at lower pressure, I enjoyed them very much.. and I conceed.. my first evaluation of them was a bit premature.

FWIW,
Im just a bit grouchy as of late.. For reasons unknown.. that may have something to do with this ... Now that we know the points of views that everyone has.. Im done.... No point in arguing.. lets get this back on track...

And for the record.. I have a rather small penis

that's the whole thing with those MT/R's and tires in general .......

I've seen people run nasty trails on the MT/R's with 20 pounds in them and they started complaining and wondered what the hype was all about (MT/R's working that good on the rocks) ....... come on give me a break

But airing down helps for any tire, regardless of being a MT/R or Krawler or IROK or ......

IMHO the MT/R's don't work to the fullest untill you drop them below 10 psi

I've seen people run plenty of nasty trails and driver ability was much more important than the type tire they were runnin'.

Driver ability is not important. It's all about what tires you run.

MTRs didn't work well for me until aired down around 6 also. Even then, I missed the chunky TSL lugs and their grabbing ability. Now, since I'm trying to promote family trips and can only do that in a rig that's comfy to the trail, the TSLs and SXs are a thing of the past for me. Other than getting sliced to bits at JV, and being bouncy on the freeway (only in the ~58-68mph range, what a ****er!!!), the TSL and SX have always impressed me more in all other conditions, than the MTR and BFG. But, alas, it's compromise time. So MTRs or Claws,,,, still debating..

The Claws are free, well I have to unmount/mount both sets, whic is very appealling. According to everyone, including those that have actually run the tire, besides seth, they are a great tire for the rocks and the street. Dual purpose is a MUST for me. I care jack-all about the Krawler, as folks are saying it'll get 10-15k tops and is about as streetable as the TSLs.

One of those sets Seth referred to is just out of reach for me, as I'd need to get 17" wheels too. Can't swing that right now (again, what a ****er!!!)

Hey look, I crossthreaded!

Better re-read. I would not consider them a good dual purpose tire. Expect 20, maybe 25k, out of them. And be prepared for an extremely loud ride. They did not seem to flat spot with mevery bad. Also for some reason, I lost a lot of beads with bias Claws.

Do you have pics of your chewed up Claws? Can you post them or give a link?

I took what was useful from your post, considering the different terrain and different tire. The 38.5 has different center lug pattern which probably will make them a bit quieter than the small ones. Having run multiple TSLs and varieties, I'm used to tire noise. The worst so far were the 34.5s; on the old concrete highways they just screamed.

From what I've read, and peoples' expression of their MTR mileage (versus my own experience with MTRs), I wouldn't be suprised to get closer to 30+ out of the Claws... then again I change tires more often than Christine said Seth changes his underware, so I'll probaby be onto another set before I put 10k on them... IF I even go that route. Hell, even if I only saw the "20-25", that's comparable to claimed mileage from SXs so I'm giving nothing up there.

I don't think I have any specific pics. You can browse around the photos on my website and look, but they are pretty small pics. Can you tell in this pic? - keeps telling me my 640x480pics are too big!

Don't see any pics of the tires, but I dig your commuter car! One of my alltime favorite cars.
