Thumbs up Ron's New Rig

Nice job on completing your new Rig, I am amazed that you built it from scratch in such short time, last time I saw it , it was just a jungle gym sitting in the middle of the shop..

the thing is a work of art.

Robert, I think I remember Ron telling me yesterday that it is just shy of 3000lbs, but not 100% sure.

It sits pretty low, at least as low as it can with the portals..the suspension is setup for about 3" of uptravel, or so it seemed,

Jeff, not sure how much those air shocks cost, but I am sure a pretty penny..

although, Ron is sponsored by FOX shocks now....

Robert - I've seen it a few times as well - it has a look of an old ford hot rod and a sand rail combined - very cool looking.

It does sit higher then Tiny, but not a hole lot. That purple powder coat is a very cool color.

I wasn't dissingthe rig or the fabrication - those were serious questions and the answer to each will indicate the competiveness of the rig. Lighter and lower is the ticket from what I can see in the unlimited classes. Personally, I'd love to wake up and see it in my castle's driveway

He's giving up some lbs to his competitors at that weight. I think the min for RCAA is 2600 - somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this.

He told me he used a heavier/thicker tube then most of the other guys - just becuase he wanted to.

It will be interesting to see how he does - he was pretty competitive in his YJ which weighed a ton.

Oh - and I didn't think you were dissing him at all.

Jeff

Wel, there you go...

I guess it weighs 3100lbs...

thats not bad, considering what he used to pilot..

Knowing Ron, he will be very competitive at it..

the new rig sits 9" lower than his old rig...

part of the reason for the height is the portal, you cant go much lower as they would be hitting the tubing on the frame..

He says it is very stable..

cant wait to see him run it..

We will see more of this in competition in the future. The low and light trend is big now. This reminds me a lot of Ken Blume's PT Cruiser buggy (Go2Guy on POR). He's out here on the east coast, but uses Volvo portals and sits very low. You can see several comp pics at www.erocc.com It is a yellow buggy with a PT grill. Won the last event.

Also, you can see here: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...new+buggy+pics

Looks like Team Purple had input.
