Cronacast 211 ??

Ok,
Has anyone here used Cronacast 211 before ?
http://webapp1.cronatronwelding.com/...temNum=CW01032

I seem to get into welding Steel to Cast quite often. The Nickel Rod is a pain and I dont like to Preheat, weld, then post heat then pean.

With the 211 you dont need to do this, hell if you want a second pass, you dont even have to remove the Flux.

Any thoughts ?

Never used it.

I use 99Ni.

I don't fully understand Cronatron's claims though.

You preheat cast iron for two purposes.

First, for better weld penetration and fusion.

Now if that were the only reason you were supposed to preheat, I'd be inclined to try the 211.

The second reason you preheat cast iron is to stabalize it, or reduce the thermal shock. Cold cast iron suddenly superheated is an almost guaranteed failure if the cast iron part is structural, or under stress.

Without preheating, I guarantee you that if you were to section the repair of a preheated and non-preheated part, you'd not only see a diiference in weld penetration and fusion, but you'd also see the adverse affects in the grain structure on the non-preheated part.

The last thing I want is a welded cast iron part breaking again right next to my repair because of my shortcuts.

And yes, it is a HUGE PITA to pre and post heat. High temperature ovens make short work of this.
