Jeep weight
I finally got around to weighing the TJ today. Put here up on a set of scales used for building race cars, buggies, etc. This is my typical wheelin' setup (spare tire, half doors, tools, spare parts, CO2 tank, soft top, etc.), 35" tires, and about 1/3 tank of gas.
Total weight = 4520 Front axle = 2185, Left = 1078, Right = 1107 48.3% of total weight Rear axle = 2335, Left = 1182, Right = 1153 51.7% of total weight With a driver in the vehicle, we found that the 2/3 of the driver's weight is felt at the rear axle and 3/4 of the driver's weight is felt on the left side of the vehicle. We did checks on two other TJs, one with 37" tires and Troy's rig with 40" rubber. If anyone is interested, I can post those numbers too. |

Post them Stu - I'd be interested for comparisons' sake.
I have always figured my rig to be in the neighborhood of 4200lbs without a top, rear seat or doors. Trail TJ's certainly are porky little things. |

Troy's rig -- 40" tires on 20" beedlocks, aluminum D60 rear, regular D60 front, Atlas II, NV4500, 4.0L, rear seat, full cage
Total = 4301 Front axle = 2498, Left tire = 1265, Right tire = 1234 Rear axle = 1803, Left tire = 907, Right tire = 896 =========================================== Cabo TJ -- 37" MT/Rs, 37" spare, rear seat, full doors, hard top, 4.0L, 5 speed, 6" alumi-flex LA lift Total = 4289 Front axle = 2188, Left tire = 1084, Right tire = 1104, 51% of total weight Rear axle = 2101, Left tire = 1040, Right tire = 1061, 49% of total weight |

The scales were extremely accurate. When we had my TJ on them, I climbed into the driver's seat, we checked the numbers and then we zeroed the controller. It registered my weight within 1 pound of what I recorded last week at the doctor's office. (hence my previous comment about the driver's weight distribution)

last time that I weighed mine (full tank of gas, all the tools and spares that I carry, 35's, soft top and full soft doors, roll cage, etc., and me [190 lbs] in the drivers seat):
Front axle 2140 Rear Axle 2240 Total 4380. Didn't weigh left and right sides, only front and rear axle. Fred

Mine was 4050# with me in it with my old lift. I imagine it is a hundred or so pounds heavier now.

My one and only rig weighing was almost two years ago. It weighed 4400 with the rear axle 400 lbs heavier than the front. At the time I was running full doors and a hard top. The hardtop is off and doesn't plan to return. The full doors still see use in the winter around town, but come off for wheeling. I'll update the weight this spring as I'm curious.

The very first time that I weighed mine (full hard doors, 35 SSR's, with a big 'ole spare hanging off the rear tailgate swing out mount, full tank of gass, all tools, me in the Jeepetc), it was:
Front axle 2040 Rear axle 2460 Total = 4500 420 lbs heavy in the rear I've worked had to reduce the overall weight and to balance it out. Fred

Unless you have plated and boxed your CJ frame - you will make up some weight there if you are using a TJ as a bogy to estimate weight from. Also, the Jeep 6 is no lightweight - IIRCC, a Chevy 350 V8 weighs about the same. Your rig might not be as portly as you think

Stock with the 304, the CJ7 is something like 3600 or 3800 pounds. I'm not really getting rid of much that isn't being replaced by something else. The York AC compressor will be my OBA, the plastic fuel tank is getting replaced by a fuel cell, the axles are heavier, the rear 4 link will be as much or more than the leaves, the front YJ leaves weight more than the CJ leaves, even before the AAL. I'm adding a full cage, a cargo box, a 37" spare tire, onboard welder... I should weigh the thing when I'm done. It'll be interesting to see where I end up.

Derf,
My rig weights 4250# with a full tank of gas and tools. '84 -7, 258,999,300 and 9" front & rear. 37 mtr, Champ BL and spare. full cage............ it around 49.5 front and 50.5 rear. Hey Stu, those scales are cool. My buddy races a late model, so I have him come over and scale the jeep after every major mod.

Stu;
You need to post a pic of the Range Rover with no details. Everyone could try to guess the weight. It totally surprised me! Stu cheated on his rig while on the scales. He let all the air out of his tires and removed the two cow sized attack dogs from the rear tub.

Where would an average guy get his Jeep weighed?
I am interested in weighing my ZJ prior to installing my long arms and doing the axle swap I have planned.

Most truck stops will weigh your Jeep for you. Or, find a local hot rod/race shop that has a scale...or better yet, the 4-wheel scales.
I need to get all my junk (Jeep, trailer, truck/camper) weighed but keep putting it off - I'm kind of afraid of what I'll find.

Call your local moving companies. Many of them do interstate moves which are by the pound and they have to be weight certified.
