Thanksgiving JV run
so what's the plan for the Thanksgiving week JV run?
When does it start, who all is going and when, still camping in the (in)famous secret spot off of the road? Or should this go into the trail rides section? After welding in the cage and some other (minor) work the TJ should be good to go again

We are putting up the info on the run shortly in the trail ride section. We plan on being there Sunday afternoon and setting up base camp.

okay, got my front end together (luckily the ball joint I got today was within spec )
Change some fluids tomorrow, get the last bit of the rollcage welded up, install the belly skidplate and I should be good to go Sorry that I'll be coming a day late Kat and Blaine (be there Monday afternoon some time), but it's just nuts gettin' everything lined up for work, just to take a week off And unfortunately the weather forecast has changed a little, expecting rain on Tuesday and Wednesday ... so I'll prolly have to take my windshield and some sort of top with me ... or just challenge Murphy again edit: or maybe I have to change my sig See y'all in a couple of days

I just drove the Jeep to get the shocks charged and get a slight modification to the exhaust, everything seems to be working well. Now I just need to pack and start driving. See you all tomorrow! Matt |

Tricia and myself were out with the group last night for dinner. Blaine and Kat, Matt Pascoe, Matt from Australia, Sergey, MNJeeper (Dave), Jeff Cassens and a guy from Winchline.com were all there.
The weather was beautiful and no crowds yet to speak of. I will be back out Saturday. If anyone needs any help on finding the spot, ping me and I'll try to help you out. |

I'm home now - what a great day and the most perfect weather.
We ran Sledge and were cruising right through until John from Winchline grenaded his rear rubi D44 (for the second time). We pulled him off the last section of the trail and he split to Tri-County Gear for an ARB install - he will probably be back on the lakebead by Wednesday. After that Blaine and Dave, Sergey and I, and the Matts went and ran Lower Big Johnson and had a blast. Sergey literally mounted three massive boulders in a row. Blaine's Jeep is insanely stable and so much fun to drive. I'm glad I have the friends I've met here and the new ones I keep meeting. Robert - it was great seeing you again, and Trisha it was very nice to meet you. Jeff |

Most definetly a great holiday spent out in the desert with the best of friends. Turkey day dinner was outstanding.
It was great to meet all the folks new to me. It was good to finally get Rick and Chris out there driving. It was unfortunate Duke had the breakage/injury he did, but it seemed like he took it well. wrecking ball kicked my ass mentally but my Jeep came through relatively unscathed thanks to the spotting of Blaine, Ron, Matt and the rest. (thanks ) damage tally... 2 valve stems, 2 slightly stripped diff cover mounting holes and some minor cosmetic adjustments. not to bad really. looking forward to the pics.

Things learned at JV over the week.
First, I am truly fascinated by the great folks that show up. Other than a few very minor things like the dogfight, dogs ****ing on stuff, and the landmines that the owners seem to think the rest of us enjoy, everything else was beyond great. We had more adversity this trip than in the past on the trails and none of it diminished anyone's smiles or changed their attitudes a bit. We broke stuff on a fairly regular basis and fixed it and moved on with the exception of a t-case. I carry quite a few spares and others do as well, but that ain't one of them, sorry Chris. It was nice putting some names to faces, and nice seeing some new folks finally get their stuff on the trails. I think this run was different in that the core group was outnumbered by the newcomers and everyone still fit in perfectly. Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful. I enjoyed it and the efforts everyone put in tremendously and the weather was kind enough that my food didn't get cold before I finished it. What more could you ask for? Several highlights that I particularly enjoyed. Kat driving my rig up most of Wrecking Ball unassisted to keep the group moving. Jon's perseverance after blowing up a rear locker on Monday and being back Wednesday morning ready to wheel. Sergey's fine example of boulder billiards. Dave showing that even auto equipped rigs still need to be driven. Matt P getting his rig on the trail after nearly rebuilding the thing in 2 weeks and having it work nearly perfectly. Fixing Duke's rear axle at the beginning of Wrecking Ball and then having him finish the trail. Swapping out Robert's steering gear at the beginning of Big Johnson and having him finish the trail. Catching Ron's rig on upper Big Johnson and having the pics to prove it. Running Aftershock with Matt and Ron on Sunday Morning and being back to camp 2 1/2 hours after we left. Teaching folks that they can actually bump out from under an undercut regardless of what they say. My personal favorite highlight was driving Upper Big Johnson with Ron and Matt N spotting for me and doing it non stop. I really enjoyed that and hope to do it again very soon. Thanks everyone for the best of times.

Sergey managed to get a large round boulder under his belly pan that basically had all four tires off of the ground. With the finesse that only Sergey could muster he managed to rearrange the trail enough to get off of that boulder... and spin around right on to another perfectly shaped round boulder that had him dangling in the air once again. As we all watched in disbelief, one of his tires caught enough traction to pull him off of that boulder and unearth yet another one that became perfectly placed under his belly to leave him dangling once again That was good stuff I had an awesome time! It was a real pleasere to meet Ron, Dave, John, Jeff and WhichMatt. And Blaine and Katherine... what can I say... your hospitality is second to none! Looking forward to doing it again soon. Matt |

Here you go Ron, a pic is worth a thousand words. Look right over the top of your driver's front tire. If it didn't feel that bad, what's that I see?

were you pushing me over Blaine?
I had nowhere to roll over ... just on its side, since there's too much rock between the Jeep and the downhill area But it looks like it wants to convert to an airplane in that first pic And I'm glad you didn't get hurt trying to get away from it Erik

I had a great time as always and I want to say a big THANKYOU to everyone who pitched in and got me rolling again on Saturday. Blaine, the magic cabinet again ruled the day - thanx so much. Ron, thanx for pitching in on the wrenching. Brian and Kat, thanx for running back out to camp for the spare box. And to everyone else who pitched in in some way or another - thanx!
The core group again demonstrated why we are such a unique group and I'm proud to have shared a trail with you all. |
