I'm not sold either, but if you were to let each of the 220 individual journalists drive your rig up Cadillac over a 2 week period, what do you think your attrition rate for tires would be?

You are so doomed for many a shredded tire! I'll have my spare handy for rent at reasonable rates.

Ahem,

I seem to remember late one night #1 and mrblaine risking life and limb, armed only with Leathermen, waking a comatose #2 and saving his ass from a most certain deadly encounter with a black bear.

If you had died, what would I have done? Who would have got me stuff?

Still all about me indeed.

I have to agree with everyone who was there and their comments on the JK.

I'm not crazy about the look of the front fenders....I think tube fenders would look great but I understand the function design of the stock fenders.

The one thing that amazed me the most was that with all the food served and the free open beer bar I didn't gain any weight.....must have all the errands I was running for Number 1

I think the Gladiator will be produced, but not as soon as most (diehards) want. I think it is too brand specific, too Jeep, for Chryco/Diamler and would not be seen as mainstream enough.

Also, it may have to do with Dana/Spicer, and the diesel engine. Diesel and ULSD are somewhat up in the air right now, as far as new diesel pricing, and Dana/Spicer is hurting and may not be able to produce axles for the vehicle.

Am I anywhere near right?

Wrong.

They want to build it.

They know that it will sell very well.

It has nothing to do with willingness on their part, because they are more than willing.

They'd start production tomorrow if they could.

But they can't.

Why can't they?

Nor would they make any money on it.

Why is the question.

Didn't I mention the production line (whoops, plant capacity....sorry, almost the same, but not quite)?

It's purely a size issue. The wheelbase is too long for the assembly lines in the current plant. A new plant would have to be built solely for production of the Gladiator.

What's the wheelbase supposed to be? Longer than the JK 4 door, I guess.....

I could possibly see a LOA issue, but not a Wheelbase issue, Still DC has plenty of (under utilized) plants capable of producing the gladiator and say the 4 door depending on how the product mix would work out. My bet would be closer to a tooling cost issue, marketing, brand image, and product mix. It's a bit much to introduce 3 new vehicles to a brand the size of Jeep. Especially when you are looking at doing it all in one plant and you don't know what the product mix will be.

Simple answer:

Make it the same wheelbase as the 4-door! I'd still buy it.
