1963 CJ5 coil

I have a 1963 cj5 with a F-134 engine. It died on me last weekend and it was like the key was turned off. No spitting and sputtering, just dead. I replaced the starter solenoid, and still no go. (by the way, the starter sheared the pin on the shaft where the bendix is attached, so can't used the starter to turn it over) we are pulling it. Now I suspect the coil. I cannot find the resistance that is supposed to be measured across the primary and secondary. One book says between 1.25 ohm and 1.4 ohm and the other says 1.13 and 1.23 ohm. I am reading .8, 1 and 1.5 each time I measure it, it seems to change. Is this a large enough difference to say it is gone? Also, are these ranges correct? The jeep is 250 miles away, so I don't see it very often and it is a pain to get there and not have what you need to fix it.

Has full tank of gas, points and condenser changed to solid state, good plugs, large K&N air filter, inline fuel filter, battery up, (lights work, gauges light up, starter motor turns when key is turned on.

The coils I have had go bad have been more of an intermittent problem.
Start and die, crap out when hot, will start but pop under load...........

Sounds more like you lost juice some where. Wire to/from the ignition switch.
Since you cant crank it at, least check to see if you juice at the + side of the coil ?
Also check the ground. I've had problems on older vehicles
where the ground attaches to the motor become rusted and loses conductivity.

I do have power to the starter and to the coil. The starter will spin, but the roll pin was sheared so it would not start. I have fixed the roll pin and next time we go it may be a little easier as I will have the starter going. We did have 12 v to the starter solenoid, and we had some voltage to the coil primary, but I can't remember how much. With the starter out, we left the jeep running for 5-6 hours on Saturday, Sunday it was a couple of hours and then it just stopped.
