Nice photos, Erik. From the angle of the shots it looks like you were pretty close. What equipment were you using?

Thanks Darrell.
These were shot with the Canon 5D and 70-200 L 2.8 lens.
I was Very close. I was in the Press area in front of the bulkhead.
It was a great experience!

Pretty good Vern.
The top 2 are night with lights.
No flash.

It depends on a lot of factors Vern.
I recommend getting THIS as it lets you see EXIF data for web photos. This is what I used to get ideas on how people were successfully shooting these types of photos in various conditions.

Download this thing and you can see all of the settings I used to shoot each photo.

Let me know if you have any questions this thing wont answer for you.

Thanks, The Canon is a hard camera (at least for me) to use at night.
Been following your communication over on Canon Digital Photography Forum.
Your night shots are looking pretty good.

ok last night in my apartment in TJ I used shutter priority. Used the 22-55 and the 100-400. Not much street action wrong part of town. Waited a while looking at the Pemex station perhaps it would get robbed or something. Surprised that the 100-400 could see anything but did.

Tonight I'll mess with the Program mode using the ISO .

Some fun shots waiting to get dark though....

The 100-400 lens has F 4.5-5.6 and the F 4.0-5.6. Those are both too high in the F stop arena to take strong night shots with no flash.
Look into a F 2.8 lens or lower.
If you have a 50mm lens, check the F on that.

All of the photos I have taken are F 2.8 or lower so that you can keep the ISO at a level that isn't too grainy, and keep the speed at 150+.

I think the problem for you Vern is too small of a lens aperture. Borrow a 2.8 lens and try it out.
I think you'll like the results much better.
