Hey Mr. Short-term Memory,

Did you forget that you already have a winch?

http://www.jeepbbs.net/forums/showth...&threadid=9937

Instead of looking into getting a winch, just keep the one you got. Either you've got a bad short-term memory, are schizophrenic or multiple people are posting under your account. I'm finding your posts a bit difficult to follow.

Yeah, here's one. I'd offer the guy a reasonable $ and email him & see if the offer is acceptable.

Better yet, PM him & see if he'll unload it for cheap & pay for shipping too. LOL

Jeff, nice find.

I suppose somebody forgot to log-in with their other user name.

A 10,000lb winch is not overkill - most of us are running 9500's. Given what rigs end up weighing after they are built up, the last thing a Jeeper needs is an under powered winch. I in fact stepped up from a perfectly good Warn M8000 to a 9.5XP last year for just that reason.

well the winch itself weighs 110 lbs according to Ramsey specs since it is for "tow truck" use only and the custom winch plate that i hada have fabbed up out of steel is 70 lbs in itself. I just figure its too much weight and overkill. MEssage me to see pics and u all will see what i mean

Warn 8274 is 110 lbs. also. I'd bet my mount is at least 50 lbs, maybe more.

Of course, I'm not in SoCal running rocks, either....

Everyone said the 9,000 pound winch I put in my mostly stock XJ was overkill...

... until I had to get a full size pickup out of a mud bog deep enough to bury his 38" tall swampers. I hooked up the snatch block and pulled him right out (after I had secured my little Jeep to a tree).

OK, so whats the problem Get yourself a good synthetic rope if you are worried about weight - that should be good for a 20lb reduction.

You have a capable winch that weighs around 110 lbs. Your mounting system weighs another 70 lbs. If you went to synthetic rope, you would save closer to 30 lbs than 20. Lose the roller fairlead and replace with an aluminum hawse style-better for the rope, and save another 8-10 lbs. You might save another 25 lbs if you went to a lighter style mount plate.
If you sell your winch, and buy a new one that weighs around 85 lbs, with your current set up- you are onlyl saving 25 lbs. Make sense? Not raggin' on you, just want you to see what you might save by spending alot more $.

Well my winch WAS pretty much at it's limit with that snatch block and the truck.

If I had a 12,000 pound winchwith those huge shackles and 1" plate reinforcing my frame...

Has anyone used 3 snatch blocks at the same time?? Have heard of such.Maybe if you anchored to the ground you could spin the world in reverse-Eureka-travel back in time.
