Detroit Locker Question
Last night I had to change out a rear seal in the transfer case and noticed that the driveshaft would turn before the tires would. It was about 1/8th of a turn. Now, I can feel the backlash in the gears, this seems to be in the locker. Is there play in a Detroit? Could this be normal? I have been driving this for about three years. There is no other play in the rear driveline, and the locker is working. Any ideas?

Mike, Thanks for the input. I guess I do not have a problem.

You do have a problem; its name is Detroit Locker.

Now come on, it made a world of difference. Sure, it is really not good on the street, but if I keep my tires inflated to the same pressure on both sides, it really dosent seem to be a problem. Besides, I got it and disc brakes for my heep for $600. I just couldn't turn that one down.

Wait till you break a shaft and it takes the locker with it.

I remember that post. It was short time after that I bought my Detroit. I didn't mention it for fear of being called a weenie and being banned.

I can just picture Sergey, sitting in his stripped Russian pirate shirt saying to himself as he's looking at the forum on his computer, "Wonder where every one went?"
"Probably Ju..... who cares?" "Word." |
