A 2" lift is pretty mild and seldom causes problems at all. At the very most, you MIGHT have to drop the transfer case skidplate maybe 1/2" with washers around the bolts but that's it and you may not even need to do that. Some Wranglers need it, others don't... mine didn't when it only had a 2" lift. That 1/2" transfer case skidplate drop will compensate for the very slightly steeper driveshaft angle that may or may not cause mild drivetrain vibrations.
2" of lift won't cause any steering issues whatsoever providing your front-end alignment was ok to begin with. Auto lockers are fine but your '89 has a Dana 35c rear axle which isn't strong enough to be locked. However, you can install a front locker like an Aussie, Lockright, or No-Slip without issues. The only time a front automatic locker can create problems is when you use 4x4 on the street like you may use there in Iowa in the Winter. If you can remain in 2wd when on the street, you won't even notice the front locker's presence. |

Typically a good lift kit will provide shims to correct your rear pinion angle.
Do some research on the various kits to see what people are saying about them. For the 2.5" kits, look into BDS and Rubicon Express brands. BDS having the better warranty and customer service. |

ok so thanks any other concers I need to adress?why is the rear weaker?

The rear Dana 35c is weak primarily because its axle shaft diameters are not large enough to handle the doubled torque load a locker can cause them to have to endure. As the axle left the factory, neither side's axle shaft can ever have to accept more than 50% of the torque that the engine can deliver. When you install a locker, that can go to 100% of the engine's torque being sent to just one side if/when the other side's tire is up in the air or without traction which are the situations lockers are meant for.
