Planning a trip to AZ the end of February

My son and I are planning on going to the Mineral Mountains east of Florence, AZ and maybe some other places around there for a few days. Probably the last week in February. If anyone is interested in meeting us there let me know. We'll be camping and playing it by ear except to do Martinez Canyon for sure.
Ron

I like the way my Jeep is now..... I'd just like it, well, a little higher off the ground with more ground clearance!

Hi Ron,

I am thinking I might be able to swing by and catch a trail or two!

Sounds good to me. Perhaps we could get some of those CA guys to come on over too and make a small get together out of it!

In the near future I'm going to build a thingy for the back of my Jeep and carry more stuff.

I want to come out and play too but I am not sure I can make the end of Feb - I was thinking more like mid march or late April - kinda like before Moab or after.

March would work nicely. Late April is the Moab JU run.

Well,
It's the end of February. My son and I are going to drive out next Saturday somewhere around Phoenix.
We have a date with Stu on Monday morning for some fun around Table Mesa Road.
Anyone else up for AZ?
Ron

Guys:
E-mail me at kevin@kevinsjeepparts.com and let me know where and when you'll be out. I think I may join you, unless you're planning on running something super hard-core that my short bus can't handle, lol.

Guys, I'll be there irrespective of the trail we run...Stu's offered a shotgun position to me if we do some trail that's over my head, so either way, I plan on being there btw. 8x-9a

See you then,
Kevin

Actually, with all the JV talk going on I was wondering about the dates Stu? I am looking at a 3/29-4/2 timeframe - are we still good?

Good. I was beginning to think that you were prefering to play Jeep Slut by riding shotgun over some JV trails to actually wheeling with me

You are not really my type but maybe with some surgery and a bag......

Seriously, I am confused over what dates and when all this JV stuff is going to happen so lets just count on Phoenix the last week of March

Good news (well, I guess it is good news...I feel obligated to say it is good news....mostly...I guess so anyway)

I hooked up with Ron and Tom today. As an added bonus, KevinF was able to join us too. Although Kevin and I both live in the valley, we had not met in person until today. Darn good Jeeper. I'll share a trail with him any day!

So, a REALLY fun time was had by all. Kevin drove his short bus very well. We did lower and upper Raw Deal. Kevin was open/open and Tom was LSD/open so we weren't looking at the Terminators or such today.

But that was NOT a problem because we had more than our fair share of fun on Raw Deal. Speaking of raw, I saw Kevin put those rock sliderz he makes to good use today. He spanked a couple of rocks and showed them who was boss. They took a lickin' and kept on tickin' (I've been waiting years to use that old line!) We helped him rearrange the last couple of feet of his exhaust pipe too. I felt kind of band about that one , but he was in the air hole and we had to get him out of it!

I gotta work on Ron....he kinda cruises through the obstacle and it is darn hard to get a photo of him. A couple of times, I had to yell at him to STOP so I could take a picture. I wasn't even goint to listen to the "no one took pics of me on the trail"! LOL

For the most part, we kept Tom's wheels on the ground, except for the air hole! He was grinning ear to ear before we let him out of it. I don't think he walked away feeling short sheeted one bit.

Me? Well, I finally got to nail an obstacle that I've been waiting on for a couple of years now. A front locker is mandatory since it requires you to climb a rock wall with your passenger tire while the driver's side hangs out in no-mans land. What a rush! I hope Ron got pics there!

We wrapped it up about 3:30 PM or so. We left Ron and Tom and headed back to Phoenix. They were going to pack up their camping equipment and go find a motel for the night....soft bed, hot shower, nice meal...and Ron said something about putting his feet up and catching a bit of TV before calling it a day.

I'll try to get some pics up shortly. Ron was burning up picture RAM today so he is going to have lots more than I.

It was so nice to run with friends, both new and old! I couldn't think of a better way not to spend a day at work!

Hi all:
Had the opportunity to make some new friends yesterday and meet some really great people! Stu, thanks for the excellent spotting...couldn't have done it without you. I can't wait until I am actually running with lockers...that open stuff is becoming more and more of a handicap! Tom, thanks for the great conversation and rapport and to Ron, the photographer extraordinaire...thank you! I can't wait to see all of your guys nifty digital images...I ran out of film about 3/4 of the way through the trip, LOL!

Anyway, it was great to go wheelin' on a Monday...I'm thinking that Stu and I should make a habit of this!!!!

Great to meet you all and am looking forward to future rockplay with ya'll.

YES IT IS!

Jeeper,

That is the one. And if I remember correctly, that picture was taken during my first trip on that trail. I think YJ John was leading that day. I was on 32" rubber and 2" of lift....oh yeah, between the air hole and this one, I was completely in awe about the entire thing!

Amazingly, the trail was in pretty good shape. There was a little bit of litter, but not nearly the amount I was expecting. After we finished Upper and were leaving, I thought I saw a vehicle in the wash at the base of the hill where everyone shoots from....where the pipeline goes due west up that steep section with a couple of Y forked Jeep trails on it. I hope it was only down in the wash to pick something up, but I am thinking it had been trashed there as the hood was up. I didn't stop to check it out as there were people grouping up in the area to shoot and I didn't feel like dodging any bullets. I'll look the next time I am out that way.

Yeah, I bet that is true. If my old failing memory serves me correct, your last run on this trail netted you:

The way I see it, you got a pretty serious score to settle with that trail!

Yep, you were there...That trail got me in a bad way! Of course it gave me an excuse to upgrade but who knew it would take this darn long! I want revenge and then I'm going to name it Steve's (or Jeeper's) revenge...no longer will I call it "Raw Deal"! Just a tad bit more time!

This is the best picture I took on that obstacle.

After the lift on Air Hole, I really didn't think this one was that impressive. Sorry.

Hi Ron,

Hey....it would seem you made it home. I hope the remainder of the trip went well and you didn't suffer and breakage, etc. I assume you didn't but one never knows for sure.

Thanks for the pic. I was hoping I was a bit further up that rock (maybe I was but you didn't catch it)....not sure. Not a problem, I can always go back and try it again.

If you need an address for any pics, let me know and I'll send you an e-mail with mine.
