practice welds
lincoln 180c
1/4" thick 4" long .030 wire 25/75 single pass going slow and slower newbie welds.... do i need to slow down more? i want to weld on some new control arm brackets on my frame and rear end. hoping i can get good enough soon. i made 24 4" welds and only was able to break the one with a #2 next to it with a hammer. |

You need to speed up slightly.....and make sure the edges wet better.
Either that, or spend less time angling your nozzle at the upper piece and more time at the lower one. The welds are slightly ropy.....or the top leg is too long, the bottom leg too short, and the filler metal is rolling down giving a ropy apprearance and lack of fusion on the bottom.
