Dana 44 strength

Will a Dana 44 stand up the abuse of 37" tires? I have been researching the strenght of a Dana 44 and can not find good info on the stength and or max tire size. Several sites list different tire sizes and strengths.

4x4,
Before going to 60 axles front and rear, i ran the stock Dana 44 w/ the Superior Super 44 kit detriot with 4.88 gears and 38.5 TSL's just fine. I did have the 5. on 5.5 w/Warn locking hubs, and disc brake conversion, I can tell u that i did run several 4-4.5 trails and the axle took much abuse from the rocks and size/weight of the tire. I hope this give ya an idea........

There is no way to correctly answer that question.

What type of terrain will you be wheeling?

What size motor?

What type trans?

What is the temperament of the driver? Is he a throttle jockey, or grace and elegance?

What tire?

Auto tranny? They're far more forgiving on parts and you could do it.

Eiter way I'd look for some alloy shafts and keep the stock ones as spares.

I ran 37's with D44 and d30 combo on 6cyl and auto with 4.56 gears. No problems with the 44 but that tire size beats the snot out of the 30 I did not have brakage but the maintance was a pain.

How was the 37" with the 4.56 gears? Did you have an auto or a manual tranny?

Did good with the 4.56 and 37's I do run an auto tranny. I would not run that combo again with the D30 but the 44 has been no problems a slight twist on the shaft splines but no worse then what I got from running 32's and 3.73's
