Surprise Canyon / Panamint City

I backpacked Surprise Canyon to Panamint City last weekend. Some of you guys said you owned land up there so I thought you might like to see what the trail looks like these days. It is very overgrown past the falls. The cabins up there are still in pretty good shape. That is a pretty cool area.

Here is one of the falls:

Here are a couple pictures of the overgrown area:

Here are the rest of the pics:

Excellent pics Scott! Patricks and nice too! They bring back lots of fond memories.

Did you folks ride up Pleasent Canyon while you were in the neighborhood?

The first pic/link looks like where I snaped-off my rear driveshaft years ago.

Beautiful country - reminds me that I need to get back to Death Valley one of these days.

The Bakersfield Trailblazers keep the cabins up, in fact most of the restoration/maintenance work up there is the result of Jeepers' having had access. You are right though, some of us do have an interest in property up at Panamint City although as usual, there are politics surrounding that as well. The whole road closed thing is a shame.

Thanx for sharing - looked like a fun hike.

Thanks! The area is very beautiful. We backpacked from Thursday to Sunday and didnt have time to do Pleasant Canyon in the Jeeps. (although we did do Pleasant Canyon a month ago) This weekend was the CA4WDC Panamint Valley Days run so Pleasant Canyon would have been way too crouded anyway.
