how does this TJ sound?

97 Sport, 4.0, 3-speed Auto, 110k miles, 31" new tires, 2" BB, stock otherwise. asking $7500, I offered $6500. It's got ome surface rust on bumpers and little on the frame. Body seems straight. Softtop will need replacing. it's got d35 rear, but i will swap a 44 anyways.

And the idiot didn't grab your money and run? Don't pay more than $5000.

Aren't those engines not supposed to last over 150k miles?

I know, but it's a pretty smoking deal for what's there.

Keep looking, they are out there.

so, is it an ok deal at 6500? not many early TJs for sale around here, and all are in the 10k range.

I wouldn't pay that with it needing a 44 and a new softtop.

Needing those puts the value to me at around 5500.

i guess i'm prety set on getting this one.

it's not a daily driver, so i doesn't care about the top. i can always get a replacement top skin down the road if i feel the need. Replay top from Pavement Ends is only $300

as far as d44 goes, i might end up getting an XJ d44, setting up the brakets myself, do it at the time of regear and locker install. shouldn't be more then $1500 total.

That's about $2000, which will put me around $8500, which is still a good price around here.

1992 2.5 YJ for $5500
1994 2.5 YJ for $7000
1994 2.5 YJ for $8700

these are private party too, dealers start at $9000 for 97 Sport.

Just a note - an XJ d44 is not a bolt on affair for a TJ.

Just stating that - I'm sure you already know.

Who whoo! Congratulations! Forget what I was saying, I was just trying to put you in a skeptical mood. It's good to be skeptical while shopping.

Good luck with your new jeep! And make sure you have lot's of fun with it.

Unless Currie has changed their mounts, you may want to go with the MORE torsion rubber ones. I've personally never been a fan of poly engine/trans mounts - rubber normally does a better job of insulating vibes.

Check out the tube fenders from http://www.tntcustoms.com before you make a decision. He hasn't posted a price yet, but if the workmanship on the TJ fenders is anything like the CJ ones they'll be outstanding.

Poison Spider tube fenders are hard to install, they don't fit, and they compromise integrity of the tub. After I had those installed, a not very hard hit in a strategic place caused the tub crumpling. The door doesn't close, as the result.

i hear ya, i just put them on the list as tube fenders is something i want to get eventually, i will look for the best ones available once i'm ready to buy.

for now, i will do minimal stuff, like body lift, motor mount lift, York and rocker panels cause it's cold outside. i will save the bigger stuff like lift and axles for spring/summer.
