RC Dana 30 ?

I need to know any specifics in the installation of a late model RC XJ Dana 30 into a TJ. Is it a direct bolt in swap (unbolt one, bolt in the other)? What should be swapped between axles (knuckles, etc.)? Is there anything else noteworthy? What about the steering components, i.e., track bar, drag link, brackets, etc.? Drive shaft length?

Thank you very much.

Also, is the Warn Hub Conversion the same for the XJ and TJ Dana 30 (Warn only lists the Wrangler)? That's what Kat's running, right?

Another question to add to this, are there any clearance issues, as the drive shaft is now higher?

The D-30R is a DIRECT bolt-in. There are no modifications necessary or needed. The axle shafts are identical, as in interchangeable between the two axle housings. The locker in one can be moved to the other. The ball joints are interchangeable. The knuckle can be taken off of one and put on the other. You can cut the knuckle "C" yokes off of one axle and weld them on the other.

The stock driveshaft in a TJ will remain so, even after being mated to the new front axle.

Depending on the year of the D-30R, there are two main differences.

The swaybar bracket on the earlier one is cast steel instead of stamped steel like the low pinion version.

Early D-30R's used adjustable lower balljoints which weakened the knuckle. (don't use these, swap out with TJ knuckles)

I have heard there was a VAC disconnect version running around, but can't verify this.

The same hub conversion is on both Kat's and my TJ, no differences. They both work with MT rims. They both work with AR swaybars. They both work with the Currie steering set-up. They both work with the Currie skid plate. They both work with the Atlas II t-case in all three ratios. It will even work with a hp rear end, as in the Ford 9".

The brake kit I developed will even work on the XJ axle.

Probably, but they better be REAL Husky liners and not some cheap wannabe knock off clone!

Two Questions:

Ace, don't you have a D35 in back? Wouldn't it be more prudent to replace that?

And Blaine,

I forgot, but what year period was this? Was it 89 to just about 2k?

William, I had a line on a RCD30 that was being replaced and the guy didn't want it sitting around. I guess he got a phone call before he got my e-mail (I was hoping to pick it up yesterday), and the guy came right out and got it. It was free, so I wasn't going to turn it down just because I have a D35 and hadn't taken care of it first. Yes, I've got a D35 I'd like to replace, know anyone that's got a D44 laying around?

BTW, there's another RCD30 about 3 hours away from me I'll be calling on tomorrow (it may be free too).

Ace, I know where there is a d-44 in very serviceable condition with 3:73's and needs to sell for 1200.00.

Interested?

What do you mean in very serviceable condition, new, used, how many miles? Is the owner willing to make any trades (I have a rifle that is worth $1200)?

I don't need a rifle. I do need 1200. Sell the rifle and send me the money.

Serviceable means just that. It will serve you well in your jeep. It is a direct bolt in. It has no damage, but is not new.

Back to the RC D30

The market for a rifle like what I have is much different here, and I am trying to sell it but doubt it will happen anytime soon.

In the meantime, I've found a '93 RC D30 for $200, complete, minus brakes on one side. Worthy upgrade for $200?

Any idea what just the spare shafts might be worth?

When I broke a shaft in Colorado, I picked up a used one in Grand Junction for $125. I was glad to get it as Jeep wanted over $400 for one and I wanted to go 4 wheeling with my friends, not 3 wheeling. I'd say the shafts alone are worth the $200.

That was kind of my thinking, inners/outers complete, and a free housing
