Will do. I plan on the same area as last year. I'll post the coordinates before I leave.

Chris and I hope to get out there on Thursday as well.

Rock-It Man got a booth this year, and we're gonna share it with MJR

Should be a good time

Scott,
you do not have to specifically register if you don't want to. About half the vehilces there are registered and the other half are not. Registering gets you into the raffle and the organized runs. BTDT with the organized runs being highly frustrating and the raffle not getting me much in return.

If I can get my junk together I will be there, but if it rains all through this weekend, that will be a major hinderance on me.

I'm interested in this run. Like Robert asked; is it necessary to register in advance. I know nothing about this event. Do most people tent it? Thanks!

One should not crash weddings, bachelor parties, gay sing a longs, or organized runs.

If you want to show up, send in the entry money. You can decline to participate in any of the organization, but don't crash the party.

I usually pay but never participate. We usually go to watch the general stupidity going on, plus the area makes for relatively damage free, yet fun wheeling.

You don't have to tent it if you don't mind sleeping on the ground out in the open or if you have an RV or camper. Barring those options, you can sleep in a tent if you wish.

Thanks Blaine. I'm just trying to get info from people who have attended before. At this point; I don't know if it's worth going or not. I don't know the area at all or what type of trails there are. The website isn't very clear for an outsider like myself.

You'd be better off bringing that Jeep of yours out here and spending a day or two on the Hammers with us!

As for if TDS is worth it, I think it depends on your reasons for going.

I would NEVER EVER actually participate in any of the organized runs. They suffer worse gridlock than the 405/101 interchange.

If you have a group of friends you are going to hang out with for the weekend and you don't have any specific expectation of what type of wheeling you want to do, then TDS is actually a pretty good time.

Usually what happens when I go is our group sets up camp. From that point on, it's pretty random as to what happens when.

The wheeling are is out by the salton sea in CA, which pretty much looks like the surface of the moon. It's all hard packed hills, berms, plateaus, and river bed.

What we usually do is pick a direction and just drive that way until we get bored, cresting one set of washes to another.

Or there are several large hills that end up becoming "hill climb" areas for the whole weekend. There are usually also some deep mud holes as well.

Both fall under the "Genreal stupidity" I was talking about before.

So if you just want to go and watch people act dumb, or if you just want some simple wheeling, or if you want to make wheeling that weekend harder by trying some hill climbs, it's really all up to you.

Usually, camping in the main event area has been pretty mellow. Last year though, things were a bit out of control, with a lot of noise, fireworks, kids on quads, and a much larger crowd than in previous years.

So if that is not something that you want to put up with, either find a quieter place to camp or skip TDS.

Hope that helps you to decide.

If I may add a bit to Shaloms description...

Remember that the Tierra del Sol 4X4 club is a non-profit organization, and that the proceeds are going to benefit the clubs interests, which should be all of ours. (not knowing EXACTLY what TDS4x4Club is using the money raised for...that would be interesting.)

TDS is one of my favorite events...add together all my buddies going, the raffle, NIGHT wheeling...(playing follow the leader behind Chris) its just a good time.

Im looking forward to meeting some of you

A large portion of the funds raised goes to the blue ribbon coalition. it has every past year.
