Sun Perf Billet Soft top ends
stripped my second soft top end and its getting close to the time or year when I might need a top occasionally.
are the Sun Perf Billet soft top disconnects worth the $$$ any other options? was thinking a marine application would work. anyone gone down another road and found it worth the trip?

You could just drill out the ones you have and get pins for them....
I heard the billet ones actually are a bit longer and tighten up the top a bit. Of course, I heard that on JU, so take it for what it's worth. |

Dan - I have those Sun Perf things - they work as advertisted and are super easy to remove.

How do they attach to the bows?
I saw pictures of someone with them and he had hose clamps on the bows holding them in.....or so it appeared. Yes, one of mine is stripped too..... Allen

Hose clamps - that is a seriously "midwest" solution Jeff

Dan - I have them and think they're worth the money. They did tighten the top a bit, but the big advantage is that they make it so much easier to remove and install the top - something I do a couple times a year.
Allen - They completely replace the plastic ends - remove the screw or rivet holding the plastic one in, yank it out, put the new one in, and put the screw in. No clamps or anything like that. EDIT: Looks like I type too slow.... |

Now if I could just get past the price..... He wasn't from the midwest.....I saw it online..... Come to think of it, he was from Mission Viejo, CA. Isn't you, is it? Allen

All vehicles equipped with extraneous hose clamps on something other than a hose are forcibly removed at the vehicle owner?s expense. The rules are harsh here, but that keeps the place free of hooligans and riff raff! Jeff

Think positive - they're half as expensive as the Turbo City ones.
How much do new plastic ones cost from the dealer? I'd be surprised if they're less than $8 each..... |

I think the dealer ones are about 30 bucks each.

Almost a third the price of the crap from the dealer (in this instance) and that's not good enough? Tough crowd. If you guys want to put together a quantity, I'm pretty sure I can do something on the price. I am good friends with a Sun dealer and he has been kind in the past.

I've got 'em installed on my Jeep as well. No complaints.
Of course history shows that if it's on my Jeep, it's usually not worth doing. Or at best useful only for wussies. Let's just chalk this up as a pleasant mistake.

If you don't want to spend $50 on the Sun Performance ones, you can get the factory plastic ones from jeepsrus on eBay for $16.95 each. And I thought THAT was high! |

But, to be honest blaine, I thought you might have found a low buck alternative given some of your past posts using aluminum tubing for things. Quote:

I am fine. the date... hmmmm... well, here goes.. The plan as of Friday afternoon was to meet at Nat's at 2pm on Saturday. She said she had a softball game and that 3 would be better. No problem, 3 it is. I got a call around 12:30 saying she had another game at 1:45 and that 3 wasn't going to work. She said she'd call me on my cell after the game. Haven't heard from her since. The end.

Tough break Brian. The beauty of it is that you are getting into your prime while the girls you are going to want to date are getting older. Extrapolating the data, you'll be in the driver's seat before they know what hit them.

Jackhammer
There are three sections of Jack:
- Technical - Animal Fear - Brutal The first one is up waterfalls. Very technical, the line gets as narrow as a mosquito asshole in places. Second is the double section hill climb, with a long way down on ether side of the jeep. And it's not just going up the hill, you are going over rocks, driving over large freaking loose in the sand boulders, man. The experience is of prehistoric horror in a frightened monkey eyes. One mistake, and no roll cage will save your sorry behind. The last section is Jack's revenge for passing the Animal Fear section alive. It's the most brutal downhill driving with every rock trying to bite a chunk out of your jeep, and every next hole struggling to trap and swallow your low rider of 4x4 upside down. I'd bring a date there. Sure, why not? |

Where do I send my $50? Likely, I'll wait until spring when the soft top goes back on..... My "To Buy" list is getting quite long, and those SP Billet ends are somewhere near the bottom.....but they're on the list now. Allen
