Good choice on the heater Jerry, and yes, it will make a big difference even in a tent. The only downside is that the small propane tanks won't last through the night. If you do have a big enough tent, they sell a hose that will let you hook it up to a BBQ propane tank which will last forever and save a few bucks on fuel.

The only thing about the cat back heaters is that you want to be in a larger sized tent.

I ran mine for the first time the last time I was out in JV and I have smaller sized 3 person coleman tent which I think is 7x7 and maybe 5 feet tall.

The cat back made the roof of the tent hot enough that it seemed like it was starting to get tacky after about 10 minutes.

I had to shut it off because I was afraid of melting the tent if I let it run the whole night.

I didn't try it with the rain flap off. Perhaps that would have helped by letting all the hot air vent out and up quickly.

Weird I have the same problem each time I unbolt mine after a long drive and lay it on my tent

That's funny. That's what I get for typing under the influence of nyquil, I suppose.

I can't believe I'm going to miss out on this run. Have fun everyone.

Yes Monoxide - I'm lame.

Go to Home Depot and buy a battery powered one for the house - it's fire/carbon monoxide. I have on in the RV. Just lay the damn thing in your tent.

I don't know who all plans to be at the campsite when (except Blaine & Kat). Sergey & I should be there later that same eveing (maybe ~10-11PM) and we would like to tag along during the Sledge prerun if at all possible in my POJ.

I plan to stop-off at a place near my home that sells firewood in bulk. If anybody is interested in me picking up firewood for you (within reason ) let me know. I should be able to haul a good amount & maybe save a few $ in the overall cost. To clarify, I'm not purchasing your firewood for free - just passing along any saving since this place should be cheaper than buying it from a grocery store.

Looking forward to seeing everybody there.

Joe, are you pulling a trailer or something? I will only have room for a small $5 bundle of supermarket wood so that'd be great if you could pick up my share of wood too. I'd then have room for food if you did that.

Let me know how much and if you still have room for my wood. Maybe I can caravan up there Friday with you and Sergey?

Jerry, yep - I'll be using my trailer. I hope to run Sledge twice that weekend (prerun & RR). I'll pick up enough wood for you for 2 evenings if that's how long you'll be there.

PM in the works.

Thumbs up

Joe,

Don't buy Jerry's wood. I want him not to have any room in his jeep; so I can see him beg for food... No, I am just kidding.

Buy my wood also please. I know I still owe you money form the last trip, but I'll tie a big knot on my sudarium, so I don't forget this time.

Do you have a southern accent? The crew is suckers for accents - we've got Sergey's, Matts, and Erik and Chris sorta speak a gutteral elvis....

It'd be great if someone would please PM the camp GPS coordinates/directions to everyone on the list who hasn't been to the current campsite. I spoke to Joe D. Friday and learned it's no longer near the road.

And Jeff, the later it gets, the worse my southern/Texan accent gets.

History suggests those who are given coordinates have harder time locating the campsite than those who are not.

That could be but thanks for those GPS coordinates Sergey. Google Earth showed them to be right where Joe D. described, at the base of the mountain as they should be.

I could probably work up a pretty convincing one after 19 years in Atlanta and now Lexington. It'd not be original though....

Have fun everyone. I'll have to catch all of you out there some other time.

Is someone going to be taking vids?

I'd like to see "chipmunks part II" should any situations like that arise again.

Please take lots of pictures everybody... I was really hoping to get a "shotgun spot" with somebody, but apparently I forgot to shower so nobody wants me riding shotgun...

Would the driving time from the south to JV be faster going north up the I-15 to Victorville and cutting over on the 18 to the 274?

For now, I'm planning on taking the 10 to 62 to Yucca Valley to 274 as I did before unless someone says I-15 to Victorville to the 18 to the 274 is a quicker way to go.

My GPS autoroutes me up the I-15 to Victorville to the 18 to the 274 when I select "Quickest" route as opposed to the "Shortest" route.

not sure if it's quicker, but if you do go that way exit "D street" instead of bear valley rd. less traffic and fewer stoplights.

Six of one, half dozen of the other.

We pretty much hate the 10/60 fwys. Instead, we actually cut across Hemet on 79N (Winchester Rd) to Banning, and up from there to avoid the traffic on 215. Also, now you can exit at Newport Road in Menifee, which turns into Domenigoni, Which takes you to Hemet. Turn left on Sanderson, stay on it till you hit the 60 fwy.

Hope that helps.

Tam

In case anyone wants the GPS coordinates for the intersection of 247 and Boone Road, they are:

N34 22.122 W116 32.741

I made that intersection a waypoint on the GPS so I won't have to worry about looking for the Boone Road turnoff.
