miller 210

I burning out my little 110 lincoln welder. Should I go buy the Miller 210? I'm welding up some stuff on my Fifth wheel.
I'm just an amature welder and need some advice.
Thanks
Bob

You won't regret it in the slightest.

You buying it local?
If not, paying for shipping?

$1185 and free shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...823704233&rd=1

Same deal at Weldingmart.com:
http://www.weldingmart.com/Qstore/c000025.htm

Weldingmart is who I got my Hobart 175 through. Couldn't be happier with them or the welder. Well, yes I could; the flux core wire goes through tips; If I could afford to go to gas I'd be happier with the welder. It came with the regulator, I just can't swing the gas and spool right now..

Switch to the next larger size contact tip. Increases the life at least 5 fold.

One more thing. While I was there the saleman gave me some splatter guard for the tip. You just spray it on and the tip don't get all splattered up.
This is a great welder. I can't believe I fought with the old little one for so long.
I'm doing better work in less than a quarter of the tiem.

Shoot, good idea! Is there a .040 tip? I still have a couple spools of .035 to burn through.

I use tip gel, IMHO it works better than the spray. I do use the spray for nearby bolt threads, cables, lines, etc., that I don't want damaged.

Vaseline also works, but your weld nozzle has got to be hot when you dip it in the jar.

Yep, there are .040 tips and larger. I prefer the spray because it has other uses. If you want your spatter clean-up on surrounding areas to the weld to be easier, spray it first. Works well.

I've also found that the gel will make the first part of the weld less than good appearance wise. Only matters if you are doing a small area and need it all to count.

I need some advice.
A couple of times today I had to do some fill. This thing sputtered and splattered. I turned the power way down as to not burn any more holes and turned the wire feed up and still splatter and sputter.
What am I doing wrong?

You turned it down too low and are shooting boogers.

Learn how to trigger weld for filling holes. I have a 185 running .035 wire. I have 5 voltage settings with 5 being highest. I run it set on 4 and 5 and run between 58 and 60 on the wire speed.

Get the tip close, zap the trigger and make a little spot weld. Let it cool about 2 seconds, move over and repeat. I filled some holes in some 14 gauge plate I mis-cut around some risers today that were 1/4" too large on three sides.

Bob, that is a great price. I paid around 1100 on cyberweld.com last year for mine, and that was no tax and free shipping. You will enjoy that welder very much. Last week I picked up one of these for about the same price. Spectrum 375 cuts 3/8's like butter.
