interesting day yesterday

I had a rather interesting day yesterday. I went to SanFancisco to check out SBC park and watch a ball game. All was well until the ride home on the 580 east bound. After just getting up to speed (about 70) all the lugs on my right front tire decided to shear (I was in my Blazer). That made for a rather interesting ride. Traffic on the 580 can be wicked. The tire flew into traffic and luckily it was hit by only one vehicle with minimal damage. I finally got it stopped and out of traffic (center median). Damage appears to be hub assembly and rotor. i had to leave it in San Leandro at a Dealer. Didn't make it home till midnight. I really don't want to try taht again. I have no idea how it did this. There was no warning of any kind. Ride up was un eventful.

Did you have your tires rotated or off your truck for any reason recently?

Try that in an RV!

I had new rims and tires installed on my RV a year or so ago. First trip out, on the 395 (my least favorite road now) 17 miles south of Lone Pine I feel a vibration. I start to slow down when i see one of my passenger rear wheels fly by the motorhome and into the should. I'm on the brake now and gently manuvering for the shoulder when we dump down on the brake drum.

What fun that was.

I will say that AAA RV service kicks a$$ and is worth every penny.

Glad you are okay and that no one was hurt - that kinda stuff can be really scary.

By the way - isn't that park beautiful - what a great place to see a ballgame.

Go Angels!

Jeff

Bummer!

Do you think it's possible that someone was trying to steel that wheel & didn't finish the job, but may have caused this to happen?

Be sure to check all the others.

That happened to me with my '65 Mustang. I came out of the movies and saw some people quickly step away from it. A mile or two later it wobbled so much I had to pull over. I found only the locking lug nut left on the wheel.

They had been off for a brake job but were torqued down.

BTDT. But it was my left rear wheel that came off while I was merging in to the carpool lane on the way to work one morning. I got to be my very own sig alert

BTDT and got the CHP to run a traffic break to recover my $500 rim and tire. My only excuse was stupidity and at least they were pretty cool about that.

Oh, I took off after mine. Rolling down the carpool lane. Flagged down a van full of Mexican's... pointed at the Jeep, pointed at the tire rolling away, and they opened the door for me. It went about a mile, and was still upright when it stopped.
They did shut down the whole road for the tow truck to drag me off to the side though. I had all the stuff I needed with me to fix it and went on my way.
got to work just a little late is all.

I like my way a little better - it was rather priceless to see that officer go chasing after my tire, get out and then chuck it into the back of his cruiser. Yep, they shut the road down for me. Stupid, stupid, stupid is all I can say. I went out and bought a very nice torque wrench after that so I would never forget about it
