Just got back from the dentist

Instead of drilling my teeth he blasted them with aluminum oxide dust. Cool, huh!

I think that it's cool. Nothing I hate worse than having a dentist's drill in my mouth. Did they still have to numb you for that?

Nop, no numbing! The pain that you get is usually associated with heat produced by the drilling action. This is a little bit like hydraulic winches vs. electric. When abrasive does its work blasting a tooth, it flies out of the moth and takes the heat away. No heat, no pain. In my case no pain at all from the procedure (two fillings and two seals) other than assistant girl was trying to rip my mouth apart with the suction tube.

As far as dentistry goes, I was a supporter of the idea “don’t touch them – they will last longer”. But with the progress of micro-dentistry, I think I am with it. Instead of drilling a huge hole in your tooth, they just blow the decay off, taking out only tiny bit of good tooth mater, and seal everything with the tooth-colored material that slowly releases fluoride to stop the bacteria from coming back. I think this is very cool.
