Steering Stabilizer

I stopped by a dealer parts department to pick up the drag link today, and asked the price on a TJ steering stabilizer. Eighty-nine bucks! Sounds very expensive. What is the dealio here? Can I go to AutoZone and pick up a generic steering stabilizer of some kind, or the only alternative to Mopar is what mail order magazines sell?

Pep Boys looks like a Rancho about $30.
Measure the extended length before you go shopping.

Be careful and don't get the Heavy Duty stabilizer, you could possibly (with the right combo of wheels and tires) get your steering in a potentially OVERstabilized condition, and you know what THAT could cause........

Why yes, they are. I recommend stepping up to the 3 footer.

Fortunately, MOPAR attached an upper end stabilizer bracket to the inside of the drivers fender well. That will REALLY improve your handling.

Is this a trick question? Remember my brain is fuzzy from the Percocet (so I can stay alive until they kill me at the dentist).

Sergey,
Whats with the dealer stuff? They will always take you to the cleaners unless your parts guy can give you a steep discount. If you call Scottys' in Fontana CA and see if they have one that is out of TJ that has not been wrecked in the front, it will cost a good 3rd to half less - may even be able to sweet talk them into giving you the stock stabilizer too. I can always zip out there and pick it up for you and drop it off at Blaines.

TO,

I guess you must've missed my post on draglinks. My brother and I each got stock draglinks from Scotty's for $45 each! Mine even came with the stock dampener. If you need a dampener let me know. Is it to late to return the draglink? My dealer wanted $217 for it.

I am just really bad in using connections to find good deals. With my primitive mind, I went to NAPA first, they said the drag link was the dealer only item, so I counted minutes in traffic from when I get off work and the parts department closes, went there after work and picked up the drag link (it was less than $217, but quiet expensive nether the less). I think I’ll stick to the drag link I got; after all it is new and guaranteed to be with the right angle of bend. But I will make a note for the future. Thank you.

I need the dampner Jeff. Can you get it to Blaine or me?

I'll dig it up and drop it off at Blaine's house when we go down there for the front hub conversion.

FWIW, the only reason I even replaced my stabilizer with a ProComp one was because with a coupon and sale at 4WP, I got it for only $10.

Sergey,

If you have parts you need via mopar (Deep tranny pan mod), let me know before you buy and I can swing by the National city one and find out the prices.

I have the number for the cat battery at home, and I'll be callling on that tommorrow as well.

It depends on Blaine's availability. I'll let you know when I find out. If it's not soon I'll just mail it down to you.

Cancel the cavalry

Jeff, thank you very much for your help. I got this one covered. Like Seth suggested I stopped by 4WP and got the Prohump steering stabilizer (P/N 219200) for under $30 tax included.

Ron, are you being sarcastic, or do you have friends on TV that want to make a show based on this thread?

Yeah,
Seinfield wants to do a segment on it.

"Say Jerry, whats a good steering stabilizer?"
"Oh, you got stabilizer problems, eh?" There's a lot of that going around lately."
"Oh, so you've heard."
"Yeah, ever think about 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers?"
"How about Pep Boys?"
"Well you could go to the junk yard."
"Yeah but that's to far."
"Hey, I know, get it delivered!"
"Yeah, I heard some of theirs are too heavy duty."
"You know those things are sold by the foot don't you."
"No, your kidding!"
"That's what I heard."
"They got deep tranny pans and drag links there too."
"Hey, that's something."
"Julie could bring it to George's."
"Yeah, then George could bring it by here, how about a dealer?"
"Too expensive, what are you nuts!"
"Yeah, your right Jerry."
"Hey Jerry, I'm going to 4 Wheel Parts"
"Can't go wrong there!"
"I hope I get the right one."
"Sometimes you just have to take your chances."
"Right, Jerry.
