Going squirrely

I don't mean with handling, I mean SQUIRRELS. That's right real honest to goodness squirrels. You see I like to leave a bag of sunflower seeds in my jeep for the wonderful snacking potential the seed has.

Well it seems some damn squirrel has found out about them and now eats them every chance he/she gets. It took a while to figure out but last night he/she ripped open my new bag and left the husks everywhere. I feel so violated, so dirty. I had to take a shower just to try to get the stench of squirrel off of me. I couldn't the the picture out of my mind of that SOB sitting in my seat, eating my seeds DAMN YOU SQUIRREL, DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!

First I had a Gopher snake living in my dashboard, now I've got rodents. Why couldn't the snake have just hung out a few months longer? William I need you to come over and kill it with your Jeep.

Well,

I'm not a good shot with the 9mm, perhaps I'll just have to have at it with a shotgun?

Or wait, you said run it over, and it sits in your jeep...

Sean, do you figure there is anyway these poor little creatures sense some remnant of a kindred spirit and are looking to move in? After all, you did leave food out for them.

I'm not sure, but I believe you just called me a squirrel.

Personally I think they have been watching too many Chip and Dale cartoons. They must think that they are cute woodland creatures doing cute things. What they need to be taught is that they are really vermin violating my sanctuary.

SQUIRRELS I CAST THEE OUT!

Death to the squirrel king! C'mon who's with me? If we rise up we can defeat this furry tide before they get YOUR seeds, or sully your dash with their little paw prints of evil.

I'm in.

If they touch my soybeans, I'm gonna get a flame thrower and start watching Cadyshack over and over again for ideas!

DEATH TO SQUIRELLS!

I've killed over 35 squirells, two with out a gun in one day.

Can anyone top that?

Okay,

Sit down.

Once, I used to love squirrels. I fed them at the park, by hand. My wife loved this too. Feed, friendly, fluffy tales. Who could hate these animals.

1998, April, I was in washington DC for a week with my wife and daughter. A hiatus from Iceland. So, we hang out, see the sights. And we go to the mall outside the smithonian. I see some squirrells, and we decide to feed them. Spagetti. I dangle one out to show my daughter how to feed them. One scampers up. And instead of getthing the piece of spagetti, it latches on to my for finger, and bites me.
STRAIT TO THE BONE.
And I had to almost beat it off my hand.
It hurt, a little. But, the big thing, is, that they might have rabbies.

Do you know what the proccess is for a person who is bitten by an animal that MIGHT have rabies?

Anyway, since then, I go squirel shooting every time I go up north. My brother has a really good acurate rife that we can and have consistently hit at up to 350 yards. The ocasional 375, but with wind, and the relatively light ammo (teflon coated hollow tip varmit loads) it's harder at the longer ranger.

I have my own .22 with a heavy barrel, speed magazine drop and better stock.

Well,

They've not gotten that far, but they should die on account of thier disease rate alone.

That, and they are so prolific, that you'd never really put a dent in the population. It'd just help breed faster, harder to shoot rats with fuzzy tails.

They are rats that mutated to have fuzzy tails so that people wouldn't feel sorry for them.

You see they make rat traps and not squirell traps - they have won their physcological war you know.

A trick we used when we were kids was this...

Find a stick about 2" dia, about 4-6 ft long, lean it up against a larger tree at about a 45 deg. angle. Take a fine piece of single strand copper or steel wire and make a sliding noose in it about 3" dia. then tie the other end to the stick about 3' or so off the ground. Bend the noose around so it is on top the stick.

Squirrels are lazy and they will run up the stick every time instead of the tree, thier head goes through the noose, tightens down, they fall off the stick, etc. Then we'd go around after school and get dinner.

My grandpa taught me that trick, they used it during the depression when companies would buy squirrel tails for 2 cents apiece. Good $$ for a kid back then.

We have tons of squirrels where I live, you can go out and get your limit (6) in less than an hour about any time. I use a Ruger .22 pistol.

Two things:

#1. Why would there be a limit on these things? I mean, could you ever really cause squirrels to be endangered?

#2. Isn't Jeepbbs great? Sheepsunlimited.com would have us all hung by our ************* ***** for saying we killed squirels.

My favorite shot by my Bro:

Proximity kill- exploding squirel parts mame another squirel close by, result is 2nd squirell with no tail.

My favorite shot by me - Face off. Direct hit in the face, resulting in completely removed face from skull. Laying inside out about 2 feet from squirell.

All time awesome shot:

378 yards (measured by laser ranger finder later) shot across gulley that hit squirel and direct split nose in half. You could see the nose, both parts, separated on the other half of the squirell. Talk about a nice shot. I spotted and he picked up. Was awesome.

One time standing on my friend's front porch we saw three squirrels all standing in a row. I was telling my friend how much I liked this Colt Diamondback (.22) pistol I was wearing. He saw the squirrels and asked if I thought I could hit one with it. They were...maybe 50 yards or so away. I kind of laughed and started to draw and he said, "wait, let me go get my rifle and we'll kill two of the three." I just drew and fired dropping one, with the two other standing there like, hmmm what's Joe squirrel doing taking a nap? My friend called me a bastard (remember that's a term I use almost as a salutation ) and started to run to the door to grab his rifle, whem BAM! I dropped a second one. He turned around as the third one figured out what was going on and dropped underground. Never had to continue explaining why I liked that Colt Diamondback.

Another friend of mine actually got a part time job killing squirrels on a ranch where I grew up.

Yeah, most of the ones around where I grew up were ground squirrels, but 15 minutes out of town we had more grey squirrels than you...well, a bunch. My dad's coworker lived "up on the mountain" and we'd go up there every month or so and go shooting. He didn't want us shooting the grey squirrels (tree squirrels) because in the fall/winter (I think it was very late and early part of the year) he'd eat 'em. The guy looked like Grizzly Adams and drove about 100 miles round trip to and from work. Can you imagine having Grizzly Adams representing you in court, right after a squirrel sandwich or something (he was an attorney)? I never tried squirrel, but sure might one of these days

I am American. I do not discriminate between red, grey or any other type of squirel. So long as it's Fluffy tailed, beedy eyes.. it's game. I don't know about eating any of them. You gotta leave something for the turkey vultures - I'm up for nature you know.
