Reading this thread, it's is obvious that I'm not the only one crossing out the days on my calendar until the trip. If it's any indication how long it has been for me, I had to clear out some spiderwebs out of my Jeep this evening. On the bright side, I just called my insurance company today and was able to get my policy changed to low mileage. They figure that it is less likely to get damaged since I only drive it a few thousand miles a year.

I strongly suggest spectating first and driving after you know what to expect. That way your far more nervous.

Re: Rock Stacking Fee

I work in government, and the decision as to what is "Perfect" cannot be left to one person. Hence, a small "Perfect Rock" judging committee will need to be formed of an odd number of people composed of a mixture of experienced and novice 4x4 trail drivers, as well as other political organizations; a commitee of 9 should suffice. A scoring system for the "Perfect Rock" based on size and shape will need to be developed. Then an impartial scoring tabulator, who has no involvement in the stacking, driving, scoring, or collecting of funds, will tally the scores and determine if the score meet the acceptable minimum for the "Perfect Rock" score. Of course, we'll need to survey other clubs, trails, organizations, and some uninvolved citizens to arrive at an acceptable minimum score for the "Perfect Rock". Obviously I'm in training to be a consultant, so I'm glad I could help out...

It's very low pressure, mistakes are highly tolerated, nervousness is expected, trepidation is welcomed. If you find that you enjoy the company and venue and would like to continue the insanity, the core group winds up out there about twice a month until the end of April. You'll know after the first one if you wish to continue.

Or, you would simply invite Kat out to dinner, bribe her with some floor seats to the Lakers playoffs and then sit back while your sole source contract was being written |

All I can say is Sledgehammer turned out to be everything I expected and then a little more when I did the rookie run last year... it was that the steep-a$$ DROP-OFF on that sandy descent just after Sledgehammer that scared the crap out of me.

Sole source was too much to expect. Sealed bids was anticipated. And for the second paragraph, I wouldn't want to get on the bad side of the Mr. in the family...as he'll probably be spotting me over some rocks in the near future and I wouldn't want him to express any displeasure at my swooning his wife by questionable spotting. "A little more to the left, Darrell. Yep, that's it. Now bump it!"

I'd like to clarify that the date is not secret, it's just not published. It's a self defense maneuver designed to allow control over who shows up uninvited. It also gives us a way to limit the size of the group to something manageable and therefore more enjoyable for all concerned.

Jerry, the only time I saw that sand hill was with Rich's rock lights on-it got my attention real quick-and kept it too! Thankfully, I was just along for the ride and not driving.
BTW: When it is dark out there-it is really dark. |

Q tips, and lots of them.
A small backpack/tote bag is quite handy for keeping the stuff you need to access nearby. |

Don't forget a small first aid kit with at least band-aids, gauze pads, tape and sissors.

Oh, fortunately I didn't need to see his kit when I was out there. sounds like he's got a mini-ambulance in that thing too.
