Cool New addition to my family (puppy)

This past Dec 22nd my puppy was born! She's a Maltese and weighed-in at a whopping 5oz! I've been talking about getting another dog for at least a year now and she should fit the bill nicely!

I haven't named her yet - but I'm open for suggestions. It looks like she'll come home to me around the tail end of February.

I do plan on taking her on Jeep outings plus wherever else is appropriate within reason. Malts are a fragile breed, so any advice is appreciated that will help keep her safe as we run the trails and enjoy campsite time. I'll be sure to clean up after her too - wouldn't want that to be an issue!

Here's a couple pics that were emailed to me of her, her brother, and the parents. The pup is in Las Vegas and I plan on seeing it for the first time in late January.

My new puppy addition

Her name is Madison. She's a tiny little 2 month old Shih Tzu. We got her just yesterday.

Madison looks like she'd be a bundle of fun! Best of wishes with her!

I still haven't decided on a name for mine yet. I did speak with the pups owner again yesterday & she's doing well.

You're not kidding about the leg humper part!

The pup I'm getting was a surprise Christmas present, so I didn't have alot of input, but at the same time I'm fine with it.

My little "kick dog" (Miniature Pinscher) was named Lucky ... of course, he got run over by a car so you may not want to use that. Who said "what's in a name" anyway?

Little dog = little turds which is a plus in my book.

Dude, don't you have like a set of twins in diapers and another even younger one? You should be real used to all manner of turds by now I would think

That's a cool name!

My older sister is a neighbor of the folks I'm getting the puppy from. My sister has an older brother of my pup. She'll possibly have my pup for a couple weeks till I come back home to San Diego towards the tail end of February. The pup will be ~9-10 weeks old at that point.

This is just an idea at this point. The pup may also get picked up in Las Vegas and brought back to my house prior to me coming back home.

She's getting HUGE!! She must be all of ~1lb by now.

My pup is doing very well and I think I'll name her Josephine - or maybe Suzy. I haven't decided yet.

Bubblewrap???? LOL just kidding.

congrats on your little puppy. looks cute.
i've got 3 medium dogs and best advice for car saftey that i can recommend is get it used to car rides from day one. the more comfortable the dog is the less it's gonna "bounce" around in turns and offroad. it'll basically learn to "surf" through turns and other stuff. but if i go offroad where there is alot of slaming and bouncing than i usually don't take mine, so i don't have very much experience offroad. i'm sure somebody else can chime in on offroad training.

and start obedience training ASAP. it'll make it more fun taking the pup with you if it behaves. god knows that's the only thing i regret not doing with mine earlier.

Thanks for the advice!

I do intend on taking her whenever possible off-roading. I want her to get use to that quickly, and that she'll be out away from home sometimes days, weeks, or even a month at a time.

I may take her to Florida (I have a work assignment that takes me there for some months) with me for a while too depending on my overall environment once I see how things are there.

My girlfriend has one she's raised from an itty bitty. It's sort of a mutant now. I'll see if she's got any tips. It's such a little princess, wouldn't have hardly anything to do with my dog, haha.

I finally picked up my Maltese puppy Saturday afternoon in Vegas and drove her home with me to San Diego Sunday morning. She weighs-in at a whopping 2lbs, healthy, adorable, friendly, and well behaved. I was pleasently surprised at how well she travels, especially since she has been in a car only one other time which was to go to the vet.

She is excellent at letting you know when she needs to use the potty. Yet on the other hand she awakens me twice a night to do so and needs a few bits to eat and a quick drink then is ready to go back to sleep in her crate.

I decided to name her Josephine, yet I'll be calling her Josie for short.

Just before our travel home:

I can't believe how cute that dog is, looks like a doll.

I need someone to hold onto my man card while I coddle it.

She sure is a cutie, Joe.

Our little guy is about a year and half old- and HUGE at 10 lbs.

Biggest piece of advice I can give- keep up on scrubbing on the tear staining. Once it's there, it's awfully hard to get rid of.

yellowcolumbia, WOW, 10lbs! That's a cute "little" monster!

Nice to see the little pups, my daughter wanted a Bischon, and we've been thrilled. I was skeptical at first, but it's turned out to be a wonderful pet for her and for us. I didn't forsee a white foofoo in my house.... funny how having a daughter will change all that.

Re-reading this, I can't believe the site filter let such a perverse post through.
