Front Trackbar brace
Robert, Blaine or anyone else who has braced the front trackbar mount across to the passenger side, what size tubing are you using for this? Is 1" chromolly enough? For the tabs on the frame and TB mount are you using just a straight tab or is it gusseted? I would think any loading is in a straight line but wanted to be sure. Is 1/4" enough?
Thanks for any comments, pictures, suggestions, criticisms etc |

This thread should help...sorry for the bad pic quality though....
http://www.jeepbbs.net/forums/showth...light=steering I also don't think we used 1"...in fact I'm pretty sure of it but I can't go outside and check as the Jeep is at home. If I recall correctly, Blaine used 3/8's chomoly tube for the crossbrace and we tapped it directly. Also, the gussets/tabs were square to the frame and trackbar mount. FWIW, I do have a side gusset triangulated from the frame to the trackbar mount itself. PS: Don't forget to brace the steering box too..... |

I looked at that thread but couldn't tell the size or see clearly how the tabs are located so hence my questions Thanks for the clarification on the tabs. 3/8 seems pretty small though for the brace. Blaine may chime in on what he remembers he used.
The steering box itself is braced already. Thanks again |

FWIW....its not so much about the external diameter of the tube, particularly if its chromoly.....but rather the wall thickness of the tube. You also need to take into consideration that space is at a premium. The material used for my brace (tube and clevis') is actually on the small side. The Currie steering brace is opposite being constructed with thinner walled but larger diameter tube.

Robert,
This thread reminds me that I missed the opportunity to snap some good photos while I was a couple feet away from that brace. Geez....first my boots, then some pics....what's next? |

If Blaine doesn't have them, I'll shoot a few more (ie of better quality) and get them up.
