Beadlocked wheels
Beadlocked wheels have been around for many years. A beadlocked wheel will sandwich the tire between an inner ring and an outer ring. This will hold the outer tire bead on the wheel at almost any pressure. The outer ring is attached to the wheel by bolts. The number of bolts used is important. You cannot have to many bolts holding the ring on; more bolts equals less pressure on each individual bolt. Some companies have 36 bolt wheels and some have as few as 12.

That would be cool to make a machine that tightens all 36 bolts to a desired torque setting simultaneously. And have those machines at the gas stations along with air. And have everyone run beadlocks. And get rid of all paved roads...

Sergey,
Been there, done that. It is called a multi-stud tensioner. We use it on the bolts that hold the top on the reactor vessle at the nuclear power plant I work at. The reactor cranks about about 3900 megawatts of thermal energy. Needless to say the device is rather large and the bolts are a bit larger than what would be used for beadlocks! http://www.stu-offroad.com |

You can also get internal beadlocks.
http://www.tireloc.com/ Blaine, these are the ones I was telling you about that a friend runs. I did intend to copy my flyer of info on them and send you a copy, but there is just as much -- or should that be, little -- info on the website. Mattt

How would <a href="http://www.tireloc.com/index.htm"><img src="http://www.tireloc.com/images/TIRELOCLOGO_shared.gif" alt="TIRELOC Bead Lock System"></a> perform on highway? Is it safe?

I can only go by what the Aussie distributor told me, and my friends experiance. The Distributor here told me there are no problems on the highway, but I doubt the vehicle he has them on is a daily driver. I did however compete against him in a week-long competition in the outback and the longest transport took us about 11 hours driving mostly at about 100kph if he had no probs doing this I would imagine that they are fine.
My friend has them fitted to his daily driver 2001 TJ since Easter and has had no problems. I have run my "regular" steel 24-bolt beadlocks with 34x9.5 Swampers on bitumen for about 6 months with no probs either. (speeds of up to 120kph) 0 Matt
